Regional Pricing Issues

Same here. Microsoft adapted the price of most software 100% digital in Switzerland. But not for games…

There are two kinds of video games publishers now in Switzerland :

  • the ones using price discrimination in Switzerland : Microsoft (Xbox Game Studios > AoEIV), and many others
  • the ones not using price discrimination : (I’m not allowed to publish the list)

I’m sad, that Xbox Games Studios joined the bad guys… :unamused:

I like this game but I am still waiting to game price reduced. This game is not 300 TL or 60 dolars at its current state imho. I suggest 200TL and 40 usd for the game price.

I came across the price of the Age Of Empires pre-order for Poland here: https://www.microsoft.com/pl-pl/p/age-of-empires-iv-pre-order/9mv56m8kk8wl

It is 214,99 zł or roughly 45€.

For the Baltic states, the game costs 59.99€: https://www.microsoft.com/lv-lv/p/age-of-empires-iv-pre-order/9mv56m8kk8wl, even though the average salary is very similar: List of European countries by average wage - Wikipedia

Is it because there can be only one price per currency or is the market is just too small for the hassle?

Its because of fuc king EU laws which prevent different prices for European states.

So now Poor Eastern Euro states with average net salary of just 1000 euro a month have to pay 60e same as Germans and French with tripple wages.

No more price discrimination in January 2022 in Switzerland :

Will Switzerland residents have to wait January 2022 for a price fix from Xbox Game Studios/Microsoft ?

China sells for $46.

In Ireland it sells for 60€ AKA 69 USD. And the Americans think they’ve got a high price.

In the US it’s s priced perfectly in line with other new games.

I do hope that regional pricing for everyone can be fair enough so that pretty much everyone who wants to can have a chance to get the game.

Just for some fun comparisons, R$200 is ~£26.60 (R$265 comes out at ~£35.25). For reference, the base edition of the game is currently costing me £49.99 (the Deluxe edition comes through at £69.99).

Even accounting for differences in cost of living, money not going far in Brazil . . . I’d say that’s at least equivalent, if not moreso?

Whether or not the game itself is worth that specific price is another argument. But regional pricing itself seems fair considering the context.

When using geoblocking restriction for overpricing AoEIV in Switzerland on Steam and MSstore, a good thing would be to apply the same price for Switzerland retailers…

@Switzerland You can buy the game (box with a Steam key) in Switzerland since game launch -31% cheaper at a local retailer…
Even my most expensive local retailer sells the game -10% cheaper ?!

EU laws do not prevent you to have regional prices. However steam isn’t fan of free movement of goods so they set one price for everyone to prevent people buying cheaper games from other EU countries.
