Relics and discoveries

Will the relics serve to give us gold? Will they continue being carts and will have to use a monk that takes them pushing them? What will the discoveries do? Are they just to know if an enemy has passed by? Or will they have another function? What would you like developers to do?

From what we know, and to be honest will not be 100% sure until beta, relics will be the same and give gold like other AoE games, carts i believe will not be there, bc they were not in the original AoE, as for your other questions I would prefer the Devs to stay true to the original AoE, unless its a feature to improve quality of gaming experience, not a function.

It would be interesting that the relics remain the coffers with wheels and that the priest takes them pushing them XD And for the discoveries I would like the sources healed the troops or something similar :#

For unknown reasons.

This is AoE1, not AoE2. Artifacts don’t generate gold and they have nothing to do with priests. That’s how it has always been and should be in DE as well.

For discoveries, I would like to see some mechanics though, as they don’t currently do anything and don’t appear in any random maps.

In fact, discoveries are meant to be a singleplayer-specific object that localizes an exploration objective on a map. That’s why they don’t appear in random maps. They’re not much different to flags for me.

But yeah, discoveries both look cool and fit the setting very well, so it would be great to see some other use for them. Like for instance:

  • score boost (proportional to order of discovery, or podium place)
  • production boost / discount for temples or wonders constructed next to them
  • @“Tha Somin” 's units healing is actually quite original and tempting. Seen this in Polanie, an early '90s Polish RTS, and it worked well. I don’t find this more out of place in AoE’s setting than Priest’s healing skills. After all, they represent some sacred place of an early culture.

(Sorry for double posting)

Either discoveries or ruins could give your units some sort of buff (maybe one that’s otherwise unattainable, like more conversion ressistance). With ruins, it might bring in the idea of territorial control to AoE, which to some may be changing the game too much.

That same, some discount or an improvement would be very good :#
