Remember me, AoEIV will be a bestseller

From what I ve seen, AOE 4 is clearly taking basically AOE 2 mechanics with some AOE 3/AOM ones, is certainly interesting and fun, but looks like it lacks a bit of own identity, a lot of aoe2 high level players fear that aoe 4 won’t be the biggest hit.

No, I said all AoE games. There are no exceptions, they all delivered bang for the money.

Dont like numbers from nowhere :frowning:

aoe2 net (played at least 10 games in last month).
1x1: 44k = 440 pages (100 per page)
TG: 70k = 703 pages
Unranked Aoe: 200k = 2042 pages (LoL i’m supprised)

SC2 - last 3 months(by blizzard).
AoE2 - only 1 month(by third party).

Who is older? Aoe2 or SC2? Cause aoe2 DE still a remake.

I would be surprised if remake of old game would be more popular than sc2 which had been developing for 10 years.

No doubt aoe2 have smaller player base, but sc2 numbers were overstated.

PS Found site with stats: Stats - SC2 Pulse - numbers are ____ for sc2. 400k is way to overstated. This count could be right if counted any person launched the game.

lol Are you suggesting AoE is like COD?… then is SC the equivalent of CS?…

The shortsighted perspective of competitive pvp? lol you realize the most popular RTS today (SC2) has been kept alive by that competitive pvp scene? That group of people that literally never left?

Most players are casual players, if campaigns good I think it will sell in short term

Competitive screen is different, can keep a game alive long.

Hope they able to balance both.

I don’t like numbers from nowhere as well, that’s why i put many different things (amoutn of players on ladder, amount of players watching stream etc…) and everything tend to demonstrate than sc2 is still bigger than aoe2DE.

So thoses statment “AOE2 surpassed SC2 already.”
and
“Blizzard looked at Broodwar and wanted to get a slice of esports in Korea, without giving any thought to casuals, which isn’t healthy for a game in the long term.”
Seem super wrong.
To me is a way more easy to satisfy the casu than competitive play. Good campain is mostly what the casu need, when the competitive player need good mechanisme, good balance and perfect smoothy game (something i am afraid of in aoe4)

Each to their own I guess.
To me the decks were one more source of imbalance both in terms of civ variation and in terms of come city level differences between players. Plus whenever there is a deck there is also a meta which limits the real choices.
The unit spamming meant that a game was less likely to be decided by a battle because one could almost replace their units as fast as they were killed with batch training and multiple buildings (if they had the resources, making it more a game of coffers than tactics).
So to me AoE3:DE is the only remake that I did not bought after playing the original.
But if you liked it, more power to you.

There are multiple things I consider when deciding to buy a game.
Currently AoE4 fails on a number of those criteria, which is a shame as I really wanted to like AoE4, I remember playing the first two editions over dial-up, at a couple of LAN parties and at meet ups with friends (one of my friends had a BNC network at his house so we managed some 3 or 4 player games on occasion). There is a strong nostalgia value for me with this franchise.
So as things currently stand I will not be buying the game.
Unfortunately, based upon the NDA I cannot go into any more detail.

I also think this game will be a bestseller but i know there will be bunch of small silly issues that will make them redesign bunch of stuff, for example i see problem with weapons being too big (clearly visible as they say)…

The game sucks, it won’t be a mainstream game.

Thank you for your contribution, you can now return to the discussion forums.

I wouldn’t say the game sucks, but I don’t think it will be a smashing success either

The “deck meta” is far from rigid.

Why do you want the game to be decided by the first engagement? I find it so ironic that the people who want to build a large empire also want that empire to fall after one bad battle.

Most games don’t end in a single battle.

More often an opponent is whittled down slowly in a number of engagements.

Then where does this complaint keep coming from that AoE3 allows you to come back after losing a battle?

No matter what you think to see in your cristall sphere…to say that the game will be finished post release is unacceptable for the given price tag.

No it’s not… why would you think that? It’s not a service game.

That’s a loosing fight. If the game is not fun to be watched by an audience, they will quickly stop throwing money at that kind of PR. And then the pro players go back to their previous games.

Who do you think will evolve? MOBA players? SC players? AOE2/3 players? What exactly would they evolve into? You make this out to be some kind of redefinition of RTS game design…

This. Most likely it will die off hard after the initial hype and then has to crawl back up by adding content (campaigns, civs, maps, the mod/scenario-making tools).
