I am curious
What would you think about autoqueue with a penalty of 2-3 seconds per unit?
I am curious
What would you think about autoqueue with a penalty of 2-3 seconds per unit?
Yes, 3 seconds is fine for sake of competitiveness. This means you can’t keep your TC on autoqueue whole game (you will have 18.75% TC idle time) and need to do extra clicks to react to situation. It will also balance military production and give advantage to more active players.
Regarding game design, I am not sure would it be intuitive enough for players: I imagine lot of people would be crying about playing with on and losing because of it. I am pretty sure the people here who like using autoqueue whole game wouldn’t be happy being 20% villagers behind.
In early everybody would be forced to create villagers manually.
In mid-late, when you have hundred of actions… 18% slower still being better than forgetting to create units.
AutoQ like AutoScout should reward the one who does it manually. At low levels it can be useful but nothing more.
Maybe I would leave the AQ in teams without penalty to test, since the competitive core of the game is 1vs1.
The other option is to disable AQ in 1vs1 and leave it in the rest.
Except auto-queue is the most optimal way to play, that’s the problem. It’s not like auto-scout in AoE2. I’m also not particularly fond of auto-scout either, but that’s neither here nor there.
Oh yes. Read this.
AQ for PC is confirmed, but implies that with manual micromanagement it will be more efficient like Manual Scout vs AutoScout.
Knowing that some people are averse to Age controller mechanics brought in for Xbox, I asked if there would be a way to make it so only people playing on keyboard could play together and only people playing with controller controls could play together when Mythology: Retold comes out.
“…I don’t think we’ve aligned on perfectly like, ‘oh, this is the rule set for ranked versus unranked.’ But those are all options and things we can explore. And what we want to do is- you know, we saw this with Auto Scout, right? When we put that in on Age 2, there was a lot of controversy over Auto Scout. But then people played with it and they’re like, wow, this thing doesn’t scout very well. And we’re like, yeah, that’s intentional actually. Like, we put it in to help people, especially early in game, but we didn’t intend it to be the only way you scout.”
Mythology: Retold is going to be one of the ones that systems like Villager Priority and the site menus and stuff are gonna show up on the PC side as well.
“And so as we look at features like this, you know? I mentioned Villager Priority, but I don’t know if you’re aware of Villager Priority isn’t as efficient as a player doing all of this stuff, right? There’s (sic) delays and there’s (sic) things that we’ve intentionally put in that the game is still really great and easy to play, but a real player can be more efficient if they micro everything.”
“…But yeah, we’ll look at options, you know. Again, this is one of those things. We’ll listen to the community and see what they really want. But what we really want to do is just open the games up to more players. And we know that not everyone has the mind to be able to micro as much as others and that, you know, they can enjoy the game this way.”
“…And I think as people get over the initial kind of hump of like, ‘Oh my gosh, this stuff is in PC now, what the heck?,’ I think they’ll see that, ‘oh, this is actually not this big of a deal as I thought it would be.’”
Did I understood correctly that they also want to bring the Auto eco feature of AoE 2 and 4 that were console exclusive to Retold for PC?
If the automation is worse than doing it manually, i.e. it is only to help new players, it seems more than fine to me.
Same. I’m just curious if I understood that part from the interview correctly because they haven’t backported that feature to the PC versions of Age 2 and 4.
Edit: Seems like I understood that part correctly
We switched gears to Age of Mythology: Retold and discussed how awesome it was that this game will be the first Age game to simultaneously release on both Xbox Series X|S and PC. Isgreen applauded the team that brought Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition to Xbox, specifically shouting out the team’s controller mechanics like the Villager Priority wheel. We then discussed what kind of gameplay to expect from Mythology: Retold on both PC and Xbox.
[…]
“And those things are so great. That those are actually going to move forward with us regardless of platform… I think that [the] stuff that the console version has taught us [is] that we can be even better with accessibility, even on the PC side, than we are right now …You’re going to see more and more of that. And Mythology: Retold is going to be one of the ones that systems like Villager Priority and the site menus and stuff are gonna show up on the PC side as well.”
Still, whatever decision they make (even with consensus), there is going to be controversy.
I agree, having the AQ is good for new players and making it have some penalty is good for veterans rts players, so it seems like a smart decision to me (on ranked at least).
Keep auto-queue , we are not all hardcome gamer, lots of casual players in Age Of games
I wouldn’t be averse to having a kind of “personal trainer” in a game that would indicate that you are not making villagers.
Perfect fix. No more arguments.
Amen to that. No we can move on to more important topics like… e.g. how they hopefully at least visually fix hydra for example
Again, just disable it for ranked, it’s not healthy for the long term multiplayer scene. Or if you absolutely must have it in ranked (you don’t), disable it after a certain elo.
The automation is always worse than doing it (perfectly) by hand.
Sometimes you don’t WANT to train a specific unit.
Once it is in auto-q, it will be trained.
For example, you only have limited ressources and you can’t afford to train a villager in the same moment.
But the military unit is already queued and comes first.
There you go, you lost villagers.
Pros will engable and disable the auto-queue on demand and once in a while also train manually in the same match.
I think the auto-queue should be fully functional with no penalty, compared to manual training.
Aom Retold does not have to become aoe2.
It is not aoe2 or aoe4, it is aom!
Well AoE 4 for console has auto queue for villagers
AQ is AOM specific function I think it is great, what is the reason from removing it will help AOM more popular?
If you want more skill on RTS game, why don’t you require removing mouse right click function to enhance your skill.
You can also choose keep playing AOE2 for no AQ function.
Amazing.
So they should also bring it into the pc version.
