I probably don’t represent the majority in this, as I don’t really play competitively, but I’m not the biggest fan of the new idle villager effects. Yes, they do make them stand out more easily when glancing at your base, but I feel like the red flag indicator at the top was already enough to easily locate and task them. While AOM is not supposed to be the most serious of games, I feel like it takes me a little out of it when I suddenly see a group of ancient villagers snoozing around while a battle is occuring nearby. Maybe an option to disable this or a certain key that needs to be pressed/held for it to show up would be a better solution for everyone.
I agree, I really don’t like this new effect. At lease give us the option to turn it off.
It’s not a problem for me, I like it . The only thing I don’t like is that when the villager stops in a microsecond in an idle state, the effect is shown. There must be a 2-3 second “timer delay” to show the zZZ effect.
I like the zzz effect, it really helps to select the idle villager.
And indeed it needs an 1 second delay to start showing it.
I agree, a small delay would probably make it less jarring. Still, would like to see an option to turn it off.
I actually wish it was more obvious, like the big exclamation mark that an aoe2 mod can give you over idle villagers in that game. And I don’t want there to be a delay before it shows.
But yes, it should definitely be an option that you can toggle off, if you prefer.
It needs a delay or the villager AI needs improving so they don’t go idle for a fraction of time before automatically retasking. It can be visually confusing to see the idle villager effect or banner briefly flash up then disappear. A short delay won’t cause problems as no one can react that fast anyway.
