Replacing or renaming of "knight" for those peoples who did not have knights

Outrigger is not a dravidian invention.Even polynesian ships have them.

An outrigger describes any contraposing float rigging beyond the side (gunwale) of a boat to improve the vessel’s stability . If a single outrigger is used it is usually but not always windward. The technology was originally developed by the Austronesian people

Correct, but South Indian civilizations did have the technology.

South indian civilizations had a lot of technologies does that make it unique to them only?

No, of course not. But I don’t want to eliminate the Thirisadai entirely, just rename it. Calling it some word for “warship” is boring. I think naming it based on its appearance is more interesting.

If we are going to go with an accurate native term, we can go with ########### which means “timber ship.” Based on firsthand sources, it seems to have been a big ship relative to other Chola ships, which seems fitting given the Thirisadai’s absurd size.

Edit: The name I wanted to go with is censored. Go figure.

Hello, @DodoNotDoDo, can you fix the term I used in the above post so that it’s not censored? It’s kinda ruining my whole point. Thanks in advance.

This article gives a name recommendation.

I wasn’t talking about Japan. I was talking about Asia. Please read comments you answering to.

Either way this change is a waste of valuable dev time

  1. If so, you need more infomation and you don’t answer my reply. I’ve already understood mouted monk means battle monk. Please read my and FourCloud176402’s replies (Asian battle monk is not cavalry).

Except, again, why are you changing this one and not everything else as well? If you want to change it, change the technology entirely. That would make more sense.

I kinda agree, but do it soon. The civ is only 1 year old in AoE2, I wouldn’t mind a rename as long as it doesn’t take a decade to do it.

I have no idea tbh. Outrigger is fine, and some tamil scholar might have a better name. mara kkalam (wihtout that space) is probably good, as described in that reddit post your found.

That’s the name I thought of, but it was censored. Go figure.

I need more evidence than a blog post. Also they did not have war horses to carry this kind of armour.

It won’t make more complex, it is just renaming and new skin, also small stat change, heavy cavalry units other than Knights can be slightly cheaper but slightly weaker. Monks also needs their regional skins.

This is basically a new unit.

Actually it isn’t. You can slightly reduce or increase stats and cost, result will be the same. Let’s say, Sipahi (Turks, Persians, Tatars etc.) cost 55f 65g and its stats 90hp 9 attack, which meets Heavy Cavalry role with no problem.

Yes it is take any uu and compare it to a similar generic unit eg boyar and knight champion and berserker. Its a reskin rename and stat change.

Stats change in these units is very large. Only Keshik is strongly similar to Knight-line, other than that every unique units’ stats are very different than generic units and other UUs. Berserker moves faster and have health regen which makes it very different than Champion. Boyar’s extra +6 Melee Armor makes big difference compared to Paladin.

These big stats diversity amongs unit also shows that Devs understand that you can’t call a unit “different” without making decisive stat chance.

Let me ask this question in reverse if the unit looks like a paladin and has a different name and hugely different stats is it a uu or still a paladin?
