Dear Developers,
I create AoE2 video content for myself and others. AoE2 is a brilliant game to make content of, but the developers could make it easier to do. A very simple way would be to add a hotkey for toggling fog of war when watching recorded games.
Why? Well, I often record bits of games without user interface, using a no UI mod which disables all the in-game UI. This is to give me more leeway in cropping footage without downscaling the resolution too much. Unfortunately, as the game is now, I am unable to watch recorded games with fog of war disabled at the moment, since there is no hotkey for toggling fog of war.
I don’t know how much time and money it would cost you to implement a toggle fog of war hotkey, and I suspect I am the one and only person requesting this feature. But for what it’s worth, it would make it so much easier for content creators to capture clean game footage with neither UI nor fog of war if you were to give us this hotkey.

Back on Voobly on the old spectator dashboard by pkz (or was it just userpatch, dont quite remember…), it was made so that hotkey for flare was used for toggling fog of war, which makes total sense. Ofc having separate hotkey would be even better.

Yeah you could do that in the UserPatch.

As a workaround I messed around with UI files until I managed to make the checkbox for toggling fog of war appear only on hover and end up in the bottom-right corner so I know where to click it.
It’s still a really frustrating regression that there’s no long a hotkey for this, though.

I also found a workaround yesterday which is opening capture age, toggling the fog of war on and off in capture age, closing capture age, and then the fog of war will stay off in the game client.

Hmm this workaround is probably easier than needing to keep my UI mod updated. As long as I’m not trying to catch something right at the beginning of the rec so I have time to toggle it, I’ll probably do this from now on. Had my old UI mod seem to break at some point, I guess due to an update, so this seems like the more reliable way to go henceforth.
Still would REALLY like there to be a hotkey to toggle the fog of war, like there was in the UserPatch.

Yes, the Spreeezy No UI mod I liked to use also seems to be out of commission since the last patch. Sad times.
