Just because some other game as AI generated art based on AoE3 doesn’t mean AoE3 itself has AI generated art.
Ugly art is sometimes just ugly art and doesn’t have to be AI generated art.

I am not here to convince anyone. I am stating why it is AI generated and then edited from it. Now, from that, you can feel however you want (ps also add crooked teeth)
This looks hand-drawn. Like, completely.
The cat on the other hand does have some hallmarks of generative AI. This doesn’t mean it is at all, and my word is not meant to be evidence of anything. But based on how a few things stand out, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was. Or at least based / painted over something that was.
(generally speaking, a lot of the more populous generative art output has a distinctive contrast and shading style, whether this is a cost / freemium thing or not, I have no idea)
Hi there. I’m not an artist, at most I studied art only as an associate (and I did pottery) before going into a Bachelor’s for science. I did watch a lot of AI videos though in how you can tell if art is AI generated. One major thing to tell if it’s AI art are imperfections. AI likes to mimic slight imperfections since it seems more human, but it can come out as not making sense which is a dead give away.
I saw a lot of major discussion happening on twitter and I think the one thing that for sure says it’s AI art is the instrument the new Bast’s art is holding.
So the rods itself in the instrument don’t even go through on one side, they’re just floating on top. Something I noticed are certain nails look weird too…
I dove deep into certain other details.
I put letter easier reference. So for A, this was brought up on twitter, there are what appears to be whiskers coming out of her ears, I don’t have a reference for cats but just wanted to point out what others thought were weird. For B, I noticed the jewelry is not symmetrical. The swirls around the rubies are not aligned. The loops also on the bottom half don’t align, they end in different spots. One looks like it goes longer than the other. The size of the bottom half is a little weird, could be from perspective but it looks a little drastic since for comparison you can see the earrings she has and they look about the same size. For C, I saw someone else point this out I think via a blog, but her buttons don’t appear to me aligned, one actually looks like it’s about to fall off weirdly.
On her background, I noticed a potted plant in the corner with a lot of stems. To the point where some of the stems just don’t have leaves as seen in A. Because of that, it makes me think the AI generated it actually thinks part of that stem is part of the stone cutting off or turning a corner. For B, on the pillar, it actually looks like the blue color smudged onto the top of the plant. Also Idk what that smudge of blue is about. I’ve seen AI art do hieroglyphics, idk if it makes sense, but it can do it. There are several hieroglyphics in her art and even on her body but idk if they make sense.
That’s what I can tell about there being AI art implemented onto this project.
I personally don’t think it’s AI art. I wouldn’t say it’s good but y’all gotta remember humans also make mistakes.
And cat ears definitely can have hair that can come out of them.
I tried 2 free AI art detection tools, they don’t agree with each other.
There are a few more that require an account of even cost money, I didn’t test any of those.
Maybe they used generative fill in Photoshop for the background or something like that.
Or maybe they generated it and then manually removed the errors like additional fingers.
detection tools that like generative AI aren’t really good at detecting this yet, imo this icon is done by a human artist, i’m no AI expert, or art expert for that matter, but i doubt FE would employ artists if AI was widely used
