I believe that the defensive versatility of +range tcs goes beyond mangonel defense, and I would be building mangonels anyways depending on enemy composition. Having extra breathing room goes a long way.
That is pretty much the most utility that you’d get from the extra range. protection from castle age siege pushes. In exchange for significantly worse matchups vs knight civs.
In my experience, knight civs are already countered unless they start using hand canons and scorpions, which can still be countered but with more difficulty.
If they just use knights they tend to fall like flies.
The main thing this helps against is ranged opponents; in enough numbers the enemy may still push, but this gives the Teutons time.
Teutons were played with cav before the armor bonus as well, so it wouldn’t be a return to its roots at all.
Referring to + range tcs, starting in castle age with +3 possible range instead of +5 to retain balance.
Returning the civ to its defensive roots, so to speak.
And that bonus was REMOVED FOR A REASON. The civ still has its defensive roots
That reason being in dark and feudal age.
So you think its fair for teutons to be immune to mangonel pushes?
Are you saying Lithuanians’ tech is over powered?
Lithuanians tech requires a castle and research. Are you seriously comparing something free to something that requires a castle?
Teutons had the bonus long before Liths decided to copy it in a balanced format. The reason it is okay to give Teutons their old bonus with some changes is because it is balanced. It will still cost archer upgrades.
It’s not balanced though. It completely shuts down early castle age mangonel pushes.
There is a huge difference between a FREE BONUS and one that requires a castle and a research.
The biggest one being that If you can afford a castle, a mangonel push is no longer a concern.
Lithuanians didn’t copy it because Lithuanians has a cost associated with it
I tend to afford a castle upon reaching castle age + any needed tcs.
That being said it does not make it imbalanced just because it starts upon reaching castle age.
Yes but you don’t play optimally do you? Imagine how much better your evo would be if you went up to castle age sooner and dropped 2 tc instead of mining 650+ stone in feudal
Are you playing in Arena? On the current Arabia that is an extremely difficult feat.
No. He just plays at around 1k level.
Arabia mostly, the tree positions aren’t a problem, tho I’ll admit the hills are giving more trouble than they’re worth.
We don’t need teuton death star town centers anymore. It’s like a Persian douche, but on steroids. Even if you set to only castle age. It’s still pretty broken.
Giving town center plus range can mess up the game entirely.
Lithuanians say ‘hi’
Costs resources, and very late game. You long ready.
