I haven’t played AOE since the second maybe even the first, and I can’t figure out which is the most beginner friendly. Just played the AOE 3 beta on steam and it’s not bad, but a lot of the time my military would rather have attacked a building rather than the enemy attacking them. Really only looking into 2 or 4 and is it just preference at that point? Have played lots of The Sid meiers Civ series if that makes any of a difference.
Aoe3 is more micro intense.
Aom features has automatic eco system, for new players.
Aoe2 is just aoe2
Aoe4 is well, a modern version of aoe2 xD
But none of these games are really comparable to sid.
Every review I’d had been seeing is AOE 2 great, as well, 4 is just a more modernized updated version. So I was more questioning if the $20 increase was worth the difference. I haven’t looked much into AOM though, and the Civ part I was just exhausted lol.
It really depends on what you plan to do
If you want to play single player content, in terms of campaigns, you need to grab aoe2 + dlcs
