Hello folks!
One of my biggest passions with AoE2DE and Return to Rome is creating own random map scripts for me and my friends. Because i love AoM and looking forward to play retold alot with my friends i thought ‘‘how is random map scripting for AoM, AoE3 and finally retold?’’ so i thought it would be a good idea to ask here people with experiences in rms for AoE3 and/or AoM some questions.
-
Is it very different from AoE2 random map scripting?
-
Is it more complex / complicated than AoE2 rms?
-
Do you think retold rms will be very similar to AoE3DE rms?
-
Did anyone know about plans for websites/sources for retold (tutorials, registers for variables, constants etc.) already?
Thank you in advance
AoE3(DE) uses a very similar system compared to AoM so I assume AoMR will be similar too.
AoE3 has some cool tricks since it allows to generate predefined groups of objects. That is essential for Minor Civilisation settlements but it’s also useful for other things.
The Historic Maps from AoE3DE utilize this system a lot by generating pretty complex layout and even have triggers.
But unfortunately we can only use the ones the game provides. We will see if AoMR has any of those groups.
But no it’s very different compared to AoE2(DE).

Okay, i thought so. Is it way harder to learn? What would you say?
I never made random maps for AoE§ but it looks like it’s similarly hard to learn and probably easier to work with.
