At the bottom of the latest patch notes

Not gonna lie. Annoyed that it seems aoe3 is getting better treatment then aoe2 is when aoe2 has the larger playerbase by far.

I’ve read somewhere that they want destroy AOE 2 DE to push AOE 4. That’s why AI games are also no more working fine, but could be also just rumors. At the end they collected already enough cc ash with AOE 2, now it’s the turn of AOE 4.

At this point i’m convinced that they will do anything to push aoe4…and giving age2 love wouldn’t help age4 so it won’t happen anytime soon.

I don’t think that i have played a game for a long time where the last real patch was like 5-6 months ago. Just disgusting tbh.

I really enjoy that age 4 is still so unpopular.

That’s just utter bs. In no world seizuring age2 would give any benefit to age IV or even the franchise.

How people come to these crude conspiracy theories that don’t make any sense?

It does make sense. WHy do you think some people started to play age 4 to begin with? Age 2 was getting boring and you think it will get more interesting if there is 0 content comming? Look at hera for example. Pretty sure he would come back if the game wouldn’t be so damn boring atm.

Not sure I agree with that considering AoEII players have been reassured content with continue well into the future, unlike AoEIII. AoEII DLC has also been more expansive than those for AoEIII ( I love them but many have complained they lack campaigns) AoEII has been a cash cow for years, I don’t see that stopping anytime soon. Outside of balance testing, FE doesn’t work on AoEIV, and they have done pretty well balancing support for both AoEIIDE and AoEIIIDE. For all we know Porto is much larger than the two previous DLC’s so that’s why it is taking longer?

The AoE community has pretty much settled into what game they prefer so I don’t think there’s any manipulation going on. For me, AoEIV is a lost cause and no amount of updates/patches can fix a soulless and uninspired game.

Aoe2 released november 14 2019 and got 2 dlc since then, one january 21 (ocer a year after release), one in august 21.

AoE3 released oct 15 2020 and has had 3 dlc, with two of those coming out in under a year after release. All 3 dlc were basically released faster then aoe2 got its first dlc.

Did AoE3 get new campaigns with the DLC’s though? As far as I can remember one or two of the AoE3 DLC’s only came with one new civ instead of two

No, Only historical battles (3 with african Royals and other 3 with the Mexico release, 1 which is unlocked if you have USA civ and the other if you have both USA and Mexico civ).

No campaigns just historical battles. Two of those DLC are single civ so both games have received 4 civs each.

This is just AoEII fans being insecure. Microsoft has no financial incentive to prioritize DLC for AoEIIIDE over AoEIIDE but here we are.

The Age franchise is alive only because of AoE2 and to some extent AoE3 and AoM. Microsoft better back up its core rather than focusing on dead AoE4, or atleast not delay AoE2, AoE3, AoM content for AoE4.

Aoe2 had the largest playerbase in the franchise, only followed by age of mythology in second place, before DEs came out.

Ok.
I will share my opinion on the current situation.
As it looks like AOE4 has problems. So I think currently they try to solve it and what would be better advisor than the devs of AOE2 which maintains a good playerbase.
I also have some instinct that the current geopolitical situation seems to have an impact aswell. I might be wrong with that, but yeah the correlation is there. Ofc cum hoc isn’t propter hoc. So…

The thing is, Age iV is just not my game and I think at least for my personal preference devs did a lot of things wrong with age iV, also in the basic decisions. It’s too rp and macro intensive imo. But ofc that’s personal preference. I don’t think they actually can save that game, I think they just bet on the wrong horse in the first place. But I would be happy to be defied in that cause imo a strong age IV only would be good for age II aswell.

And as long as there is hope for age IV to be salvated I won’t be angry with devs tring their best to do so, cause my love to age II won’t cease with a few weeks of starvation.

Because unlike all the other age games, AoE2 and AoE4 have a competing timeframe. They are both set in the middle ages, so people are less likely to want to play both. They will pick the one that they enjoy the most, and for most of us, that seems to be AoE2. They are now desperately trying to save Age 4, but I personally think it’s already largely too late. However, when AoE2 doesn’t get any updates, people naturally jump to the conclusion that it is because it conflicts with AoE4, and by the devs not supporting it, they will push people towards Age 4. Personally, I think the PR department for the devs is very lackluster, they never advertise anything, don’t increase hype in pretty much any way, and very rarely communicate with the community, so it’s easy to see why people naturally become suspicious when AoE4 is getting lots of funding and desperate support, while Age 2 hasn’t gotten anything new in months.

I agree with most of your text…but not with this part. The way they concepted AGE4 it was pretty clear IMO that they wanted to attract the age of 2 players. Age 3 was always small fry compared to age 2 which is why they tried to go more in this direction again.

Also what kind of players do you think you will attract with age 4? It is pretty unlikely that you will find so many new players, which will start an RTS all of a sudden. I’m pretty sure they wanted that many age2 players would hop on the age 4 train…one of the reasons could also be that i can imagine it being annoying to work with a 20 years old code the whole time.

Maybe intentionally sabotaging age 2 was an exaggeration. But i think we can agree on the fact that they are (desperately) trying to push age 4 with tournaments(with a big prize pool) and some updates.

I could imagine that they are at least holding some content back for age of 2 because they don’t want to split the attention with Age 2 and push some people into trying age 4 out.

Too bad they made the game super heavy/not well optimized +expensive so many people who can run AoE2:DE won’t be able to afford or run AoE4 anyway.
