Romania/Wallachia general post

While Gurajas are playable in a free campagin, you only need the DLC to unlock them. The same thing could be done for the Romanian. It’s a good thing because it serves as a “free trial” for the civ, you can test the civ before playing the civ in multiplayer. Meanwhile the free campaign slot could be given to another civ, there’s Turks, Magyars and Slavs without campaign.

Mehmed the Conqeror would be cool, you would be fighting in:
Constantinopole - Byzantines.
Hungary - Maygars.
Serbia - Serbs.
Wallachia - Romanians
Moldavia - Romanians (hopefully Stephen the Great is added as a hero, enemy in this campaign)

You could easily have huge missions the like of invading a country with him.

This is very good and touches on the medieval history:

  • Slavs rename is a must.
  • Adding Romania is a must.
  • Adding Serbia is a must.
  • Croatia & Albania are optional. Romania and Serbia were far more significant than Croatia and Albania.
  • Stephen the Great should have at least 1 addition in Historical Battles for the Battle of Vaslui.
  • Slavs should have Eastern European architecture
  • Romanians should have Eastern European architecture
  • Serbs should have Mediterranean or new Byzantine architecture just like Bulgarians.

If Serbs civ were to appear in the Balkan DLC then Croatians civ should also be added.

This would work out because it would add two campaigns in addition to the existing Dracula one, which would become Romanian, like how the Prithviraj campaign became Gurjara. The Serbian campaign would have to be Dusan the Mighty, as no one else makes sense. The Slavic/Ruthenian campaign could be someone like Alexander Nevsky, or someone more appropriate to the time period of the DLC. The additional campaign could be either a Magyar one (I prefer Matthias Corvinus personally) or a Turk one (I like Mehmed II). Either one would have a connection to Dracula.

Hopefully Byzantine, as it would mean three civs with the set, the Bulgarians, Byzantines, and Serbians. This is a good average number of civs. It would clear up an additional Eastern European slot for the Romanians.

I agree, but let’s be realistic: A Balkan DLC will probably not add more than two civs. If it added four, though, and those civs were the Albanians, Croatians, Serbians, and Romanians/Vlachs, this would allow for a great deal of gameplay diversity: the Albanians for archers, the Croatians for infantry and ships, the Serbians for cavalry and monks, and the Romanians/Vlachs for defenses. My original concepts for each of the four civs had them revolve around cavalry, but I intentionally decided to later play up different aspects of their historical militaries instead so they wouldn’t be all the same. They all have decent or top-tier cavalry, but that isn’t their main specialty.

This is the best and most honest approach! Then there would be a very large diversity of civs and the most accurate representation of the Balkan nations for AoE 2.

Yes, that sounds good to me…

Yes, it would have to be something similar to DoI but in the Balkans… Slavs go to Alexander Nevski or Ivan III to use gunpowder with the Slavs… then Serbs (Stephan Dusan or Dusan the Mighty), Croats (Matthias Corvinus then you can also use Magyars) and Skanderbeg (if you include the Albanians) or Mehmet II with the Varna Crusade and then after the Fetih (i.e. the conquest of Constantinople)…

After all, there was even a great fan campaign for Tomislav, who founded the Croatian Kingdom before the founding of Poland. The creator of this campaign even created Croatians civ.

Yes, either of the two…

John Hunyadi would be an interesting choice as well, but I would still prefer Matthias Corvinus if it comes down to it.

Matthias Corvinus could even have a scenario where the player plays as the Croatians, making it a bit of a Jadwiga situation.

I dont get why tou always insist on that. The medieval world is vast, ignoring one of two closely related similar civs until later seems reasonable to me

I don’t understand why they are talking about anything except Romania and Wallachia.

It is related to Romania and Wallachia.

If Romania/Wallachia is ever to come in a DLC, it will likely have no new campaign, given that we already have Dracula’s campaign, at best maybe the Battle of Vaslui of Stephen the Great of Moldavia in a Historical Battles or Victors and Vanquished update. But the DLC will likely be balkan/eastern europe related and 3 people are needed for the campaign.

Which is perfect, because coincidentally this region has this really cool “all stars/clash of giants” moment right after the fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1450 - 1500 where these people lived and interacted with each other:

  • Vlad the Impaler (arguably the best medieval Wallachian ruler)
  • Stephen the Great (arguably the best medieval Moldavian ruler)
  • Matthias Corvinus (arguably the best medieval Hungarian ruler)
  • Mehmed the Conqueror (arguably the best medieval Ottoman ruler)
  • Skanderbeg (arguably the best medieval Albanian ruler)

You could easily have a Mehmed the Conqueror campaign with different missions where you fight all other 4. Essentially every mission could be invading a whole country. Mehmed can easily have an epic campaign IMO.

The only exception is Serbia’s top ruler which is Stefan Dušan in 1331 - 1346.

The release of the “Battle for Greece” DLC would be a great opportunity to also add the Romanians as a DLC civ for the standard AoE2. Given that in Return of Rome standard AoE2 players at least got something, but in “Battle for Greece” there seems to be no standard AoE2 counterpart. I’m willing to bet 40% of the sales from Return of Rome were because the Romans were also a playable civ in standard AoE2.

I think this post has more than enough content if a Romania/Wallachia civ is going to be made.

I guess this video would be a good inspiration for intro and outro of a Vlad campaign rework:
