I did not expect to find this! It’s amazing to have yet ANOTHER original campaign ported from AOE1 to Return of Rome!

Those who are facing an error (!) after downloading the mod, please try to resubscribe the mod and switch to Return of Rome mode of the game, after which you are required to turn on the mod. The error should disappear after doing so.

Hello! Thanks for making this great mod. I’m trying to get it to function.

Got the script error still…

  1. We just had the official patch a few days ago, (Early Nov 2025,) supposed to fix ROR script errors.
    I am on the latest patch.
  2. I uninstalled all the custom campaigns.
  3. I checked integrity of game files.
  4. I re-installed my custom campaigns (such as Reign of the Hittites.)
  5. I swapped back and forth, several times, to Regular AoE II, then ack to Return of Rome.
  6. But I am STILL getting, on startup of the 1st scenario “ AI Script Error Player 2 File: default\tsa.per2 Line 3211: ERR2005: Invalid identifier”

I’ve searched my computer for any file called “tsa.per2” and it doesn’t find one.
There’s plenty of tsa.per files….one for Return of Rome. Several, for other scenarios.
But in the Reign of the Hittites folder, there’s only 2 files.
”Reign of The Hittites.aoe2campaign”
and
”Reign of The Hittites_layout.json”

I went into the custom scenario editor to see if anything looked “weird.” The AI personalities are on “standard” for the 1st scenario. I have no idea what’s happening.

But when I play - the villagers of the red team just don’t do anything. I just walk in, and take over.
I mean, a few fish. A few gather berries. One vil just walks back and forth, back and forth. No new vills seem to be made, no army is created.

I hope this can be fixed soon, as this looks fun! Thanks!

Yes, all the ones from The Rise of Rome are already there (The First Punic War was already since one RoR post launch patch)…

Hey mate thanks for the feedback. That is indeed weird. I don’t use any custom AI for return of Rome campaigns, I go for the official ones, the ones you’d encounter in skirmish modes. Is the official AI working fine in skirmish mode or is it the same case like the campaign one… I’ll try to re-upload the campaign to see if it fixes the issue

The game itself was having HUGE issues with idle villagers and was reported and then allegedly fixed in build 160062

I have reuploaded the campaign, it should fix the issue now, hopefully :crossed_fingers:

I think it’s fixed! You are so wonderful! Above and beyond, to re-upload for my testing.

I feel so stupid. Since the Official Patch in Nov dropped, some scenarios were instantly fixed. So, I ran on a wild goose chase. I did sooooooo much troubleshooting, with Gemini’s AI suggestions, as well as combing through forums. I saw you re-uploaded, so I unsubscribed. Next, deleted all the AI (common) folders, and ran a “verify game files” through steam. I still had the situation where 1/2 of Custom Scenarios would load fine, and the other half, same errors. (Example: ROR Empire by the Sea, failed, but ROR Bronze Age Collapse, was now fine, after Official Nov Patch…)

I had no idea - you can’t have any other custom campaigns “check boxed” at the same time as Reign of the Hitties. (I thought moving the campaign i was playing at the time to the top, was all i needed to do.) NOT SO!

Fix:

  • Moving Reign of Hitties to top priority of mod list.
  • Unchecking the box for all other Custom Campaigns.

(Facepalm) it was that easy!!!

  • This fixed also, ROR Enemies of Rome, and I’m sure this step taken has also fixed ROR Empire By the Sea etc, as well.
  • The biggest “fix” for custom campaigns is just - uncheck the box in the mod list for other custom campaigns.

(I hope this post helps others!)

If the game breaks custom campaigns by just having them check-boxed as active - then the game should uncheck them for you on load! Argggg.

Thank you mate! Going back to play Reign of Hittites - NEW AND IMPROVED! Now with villagers actually working, and AI actually attacking! :slight_smile:
