 DESCRIBE THE ISSUE IN DETAIL (below). LIMIT TO ONE BUG PER THREAD.

I’m having the problems described in the tittle with the following specs playing Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition:

Windows 10
Ryzen 7800x3D
Sapphire 7900 XT
32gb DDR5 RAM
Tuf Gaming B650 PLUS

  • 100% of the time / matches I play (ALWAYS)

:arrow_forward: REPRODUCTION STEPS

 List CLEAR and DETAILED STEPS we can take to reproduce the issue ourselves… Be descriptive!

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

The problem is easily replicable by playing 3x3 or 4x4 versus de CPU and reaching mid/late game, or even just selecting only CPUs playing each other, but poor performance can be noticed even before that.

The game clearly stutters or drops frame rates every minute.

I managed to play the game just fine when i was using my old PC with a much lower quality GPU. The problem has only just started after buying the new PC and it happens ON THIS GAME ONLY - I have tested a couple other games which don’t suffer this problem.

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

 What was SUPPOSED to happen if the bug you encountered were not present?

Thought the game would run even better with a newer PC?

 ALWAYS attach a PICTURE (.jpg, .png, .gif) or VIDEO (.mp4, YouTube link) that highlights the problem.

AoE2DE is a 2D game, your GPU shouldn’t matter at all unless you are using the onboard GPU of you CPU, but even that should be more then powerful enough.

I have almost the same hardware, same CPU but a RX7900XTX and I don’t have any issues.
Do you have any issues in other games?

If it’s an old Windows installation it might cause some issues (it doesn’t do for me though) because it might still use drivers for an old CPU.

Is your Bios up to date?

Not directly related to the issue but make sure your RAM voltage (VDDIO) is at 1.3V or lower if you use EXPO or XMP, 1.4V will damage your CPU!
ASUS did a small ###### that can kill your CPU and motherboard!

its not just asus that did it, gigabyte, msi, i think asrock, this issue is on seemingly every single board of AM5 so far, but ye asus is indeed the worst in handling it

I’m using Win 10 Home - do you think I should try update to Win 10 Pro?

BIOS was up to date but I see ASUS have released a new version yesterday which I’ll install now.

I’ve done some reading and believe it may be due to the GPU going into ‘eco-mode’.

I know it’s more complicated then that.

That shouldn’t make any difference at all.
Pro only has some additional features that are completely irrelevant for gaming.

You can open the AMD Software and go to gaming where you should find AoE2DE, there you can change the profile of the game.

Make your your monitor is plugged into the GPU and not the motherboard.

But I don’t think it’s a GPU problem. AoE2 is a 2D game.
