There is an IU problem, in order to increase the number of units being able to be trained in some military building we can move some armor and weapon technology to the forge to free slot in the barracks and archery range.
Gambeson is a type of armor, thumb ring and cranequin are two type of weapon.
Arson squire and partihan tactic are not armor or weapon they are combat tactic then, can stay in their respective building.
I’d just add another column or two to the UI. The naval rework highlighted how problematic it is trying to cram as much as possible into existing space.
Yes, but adding another column would mess with the default hotkeys, and that has a more difficult solution which would probably have more opposittion from the community
Armros in the blacksmith are more generic style of armor creation. See that like “now we enter the chainmail era”, “now we enter the plate armor era”.
Gambesons was not an armor standardizing, it was a tool to be either added to armor or instead of armor. That’s why it’s not in the blacksmith.
Not standardizing of crossbow, only specific mechanics for specific purpose. If you have to move it somewhere, it’s on the university, but it’s not a “global civilization thing”, it’s a purely military technology so it’s good in the military building related to it.
Same as above, war technology, for specific unit style. While archer armor / attacks may be generic enought to be standard and used not just by archers, the Thumbring is abit different. You should also understand that the idea is not to put thumbring in the game, but to provide a unit boost tech to represent the thumbring. It’s kind of a “tactica”, which is specific enought to be in the military production building, so you can give it to specific civs etc, while the Blacksmith is purely attack / armor straight boost.
Like all above tech, those techs are specific units stats changes and not global stats changes. Blacksmith techs affect types of unit, all the same way, which is the reason why some techs are not in the blacksmith even if they are related to the blacksmith job in history.
As they are military only, they don’t fit university, in opposition to naval techs which also impact civilian units.
Which problem ? There is no problem in the game, it’s only for custom scenario where things can become tricky but there are multiples ways to bypass that. I’m pretty sure the multi-page system still exist in the code and is still working if set, like it was on the dock before. But the idea is not to have tons of units on each building but to balance civs and have some accessing special units, others not, etc.
AoE1, AoE3, AoE4 and AoMR have the same size grid, it’s just AoE2 that has one column less. I don’t think it will be hard to change the hotkeys a little to accommodate that.
Yes people will accidentally press the wrong keys for a few hours after the update but that is something people get used to very quickly. And yes there will be an angry thread in the forum, but a month later everyone got used to it, especially people that play with grid hotkeys.
Right now the developers have to make stupid gameplay decisions like moving the Trebuchet to the Siege Workshop for 3 civs because they have heroes at the Castle or the whole water rework stuff with civs that have UUs not being able to build demolition ships but everyone else.
Why do we need to fix something which is not broken just because I dont like it?ship techs in dock and having second page was perfectly fine too.If the player is ignorant to see a second page its not a design fault rather a user issue.
One of the reasons the UI is so crammed is there’re several buttons common across multiple units or buildings. For instance, Set Gather Point, Ungarrison, send back to work, All Back to Work, and more, all use up buttons on the UI. Moving these to be outside of, but near, the command panel would free up at least two buttons in most building, and up to four in some.
The buildings that would benefit the most from this would be
the dock, gaining 3 (or two) free slots (which would probably be filled very quickly), from 0 or -1;
the castle, gaining 4 free slots, from 1 or 0;
the monastery, gaining 2 free slots;
the fortified church, gaining 3 free slots and a currently missing function.
and builders, gaining 2 buttons (next page and cancel) per page.
It would, effectively add another column without actually needing to add another column.
It does, and it’s still in use when Full Tech Tree is enabled, because every civilization gets all the regional units.
