Should be charged to 25 food. 50 food is a free villager. 50 food per mill, lumber camp, and mining camp is too much.
Give them another bonus if needed as compensation.
New bonus idea. Each gives 10 stone. 50 food per town center. 25 food per mill, lumber camp, and mine. Starting town center gives 50 food and 10 stone.
hopefully content creators would be able to try it pre release… without playing with the bonus it is hard to know… I just don’t like that aditionaly gives you stone… IMO they should have chosen one resource only…
I think it will only be viable as a medium food boost in early and mid game … but we should remember that a farm without any upgrade has 175 food for 60w… that mean that you need 120w to get 360 food in farms while you would need 700 wood (6 times) to get the same food by building camps and mills (although you will get 105 stone that way)… I could see a saxon player buildin 6 or 7 camps and maybe as one of the best civs for FC, but I don’t see them basing their food eco on camps instead of farms…
it’s tragic that the developers can’t play the game before the release. unfortunately the only way to find bugs and balance issues is to release the game to content creators or the public /s
getting a farm takes 120w and EIGHTEEN minutes of villager time, to get 360 food
maybe devs do play and try the bonuses… but even if they do, their games and conclusion are based in a very small sample compared to the aoe2 community and they just don’t have the quality of some of the pro players…
yes you get instant food, but how much extra time do the vill needs for the extra 580w?
I ask the IA to do the math with 3 vills only, the alternative A with 2 farmers and 1 lumberjack; the alternative B with 3 lumberjack + 120W… both cases has the lumber camp already built and with the feudal tech researched…
I didn’t checked if all their times are 100% correct, so I could have made a mistake… but if we trust the IA, in a full farm cycle you get the 350F for the alternative A (2farmers and a lumberjack) while the alternative B (3lumberjacks) get 200F and 60S
I didn’t take in consideration that you will lose time walking to the drop off, or walking to the building sites… it is just to get an idea before actually watching it in a real gameplay.. Don’t take it as a truth set on stone, there could be several mistakes and the game is complex to just reduce it to 3 vills
this was never questioned. everyone agree that for simple wood->food conversion farming is still superior.
the issues are:
in early game this is super powerful, because it gives you resources EARLIER. even in a standard build this gives you at least 200 food by the time you reach feudal. that’s a pretty big bonus by itself. you then get more food for every additional camp you build.
compare it to the japanese bonus where camps are half price. in early game food is waaaay more valuable than wood, yet it’s the bonus is the same size.
all of this is ignoring the additional stone the saxon player is getting
in late game this will also be powerful. at bottom-ed out market prices selling 100 wood gives you 14/17 gold (depending on with or without guilds), building a camp gives 50 food and 10 stone. stone prices generally increase in games, they don’t decrease. so 50 food + 10 stone is like worth a lot more than 17 gold. so this is extremely powerful in late game trash fights as well.
yes, you could get 200F… but there are many bonus as powerfull.. I don’t know if this one in particular will or will not be broken..
I don’t think the 50F will be broken, as it is a lot more expensive on wood and it will hurt you building order or farms in early.. I really think the bonus won’t get more than 300F before Castle Age, that would put them on par to mongol and their hunting bonus or other important eco bonus such as ethipians that would get 200F 200G as soon as they get to Castle age
But I do agree on the stone, as I said earlier, I think it is too much they get BOTH resources… without the stone is an interesting bonus… with the stone is broken, and not only in late.. they could tower rush without mining stone or use those aditional resources to get more gold in the market and still have enough for a TC
