When using Scenario editor, there are some units missing from the placeable units list. I am aware that depending on specific settings (full technology tree, Age selected for the specific player, and so on) units may or may not appear on the list, but even then, the editor is inconsistent, leaving some placeables behind when they should always be available. In Return of Rome’s Scenario Editor, for example, these units are missing from the list of units shall the player settings be set at “Full technology tree” and “Post-Iron Age”:

  • Ballista
  • Catapult Trireme
  • Cavalry, Heavy Cavalry
  • Chariot
  • Clubman
  • Fishing Boat
  • Hoplite, Phalangite
  • Horse Archer
  • Improved Bowman
  • Light Transport
  • Scout Ship, War Galley
  • Short Swordsman, Broad Swordsman, Long Swordsman
  • Stone Thrower, Catapult
  • Trade Boat
  • War Elephant

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

That scenario editors allow the viewing and placement of all available units in the game, applicable to both Return of Rome and Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition.

This is Because if you place an hoplite an select post-iron, Centurión wil be researched and all your hoplites will be swaped by centurions

I understand that, as it’s expected behavior once you are in the game (playing the scenario, that is), but while in the editor, there should be no limitations when placing units of any kind.

A workaround is working in the Stone Age. In Age 2, at least, you can disable unit techs and that would prevent autoresearch at the start of the game

You can create the scenario with Designer’s Dataset active which will enable all units. Not sure they’ve made for ROR yet though

It wouldn’t be hard to make your own mod to do the same though
