The scenario editor still feels like it’s 1998, it’s very clunky and unforgiving. Here are some things which I think need to be implemented :
An undo/redo function. This is the most basic function of any program whatsoever. It just needs to be there. Idk how many times I messed up my water with a missclick and I had to spend 10 minutes redoing everything.
Hidden objects need to be visible. Why are they hidden in the first place ? There is a mod that unhides them, but the creator has to update it with every DLC, it’s currently not working.
A brush for the objects. We need to be able to place/remove/convert/rotate/select several objects at once. Just like the terrain has a brush to alter a 9x9 area, objects should get this basic function.
A basic description that explains what a trigger is about, and lists the basic order or actions needed to create it properly. Also add descriptions for hidden tools like Ctrl+G which lets you change the grid placement mode, which is absolutely vital to make good looking maps.
A paint brush for terrain which lets you freely colour the terrain without necessarily changing its type. This function exists in Age of Mythology, it allows something like painting the bottom of the ocean with road tiles, and makes amazing effects.
A general elevation tool, that allows you to +1 or -1 the elevation of the map without altering your current elevations. If you’ve worked on a lot of elevations, and you realise you need your entire map to up 1 level, it’s a disaster to do it all over again. Again, Age of Mythology has that function.
In the hope that these functions can be implemented, because I love making maps and these would be life changing.
Maybe it wouldn’t work for water then, but does that mean we can’t have a terrain paint brush to modify terrain without modifying the type ? Like placing ice under a forest.
What I would like is more functions to XS, like, you know you can set name or attack or speed to a preset set of units? That, but with the id’s of the unit. You would need the AoE3 kb functions, though
1: Yeah, an undo/redo would be amazing.
2: Press ctrl+a to see invisible objects. You can delete them in the terrain tab via erase.
3: Yeah as stated above by PeakHornet46539, copy/paste is your best friend in this case.
4: Yeah, that would be helpful wouldn’t it?
5: It sort of exists in sections but yeah, it could be better.
6: Yeah, that would be nice too.
But yeah, I been asking for more editor/modding stuff for a while. It gets added in slowly. I hope they do take some time to update some of this stuff. although, they are focused elsewhere right now.
