[Scenario Editor Proposal for AOE2 and ROR] Add cross-play objects to AOE2 and ROR dataset

Dear AOE2 (also ROR) developers and community,

I have been playing around with the Scenario Editors, and it is disappointing to see many good objects in both dataset that is unable to place, replaced, and/or hidden in the Editor.

Some of you may or may not know, the dataset for the Scenario Editor of ROR is actually AOE2 with modified stats of already existing units/buildings/other/heroes of AOE2. There is also a mod that allows you to play ROR with AOE2 units.

So what is the goal of this topic? Basically I just want more things to build in the editors (AOE2 and ROR), and I don’t think that my proposal would affect the gameplay balance of both games.

Here is my list of proposal buildings to add to both editors. I have filtered out what maybe the most anarchic and decide to stick out with what can be more “authenticable”.

===================================================================================

ROR things that can be added to AOE2 Scenario Editor according to me:
-Amphora (Clay vases)
-Barricade (ROR barricades have different visual and size from AOE2 variants. I don’t think stats are the issue since you can modify it with triggers)
-Broken Tiles (Just beautiful pavement for a falling Roman city scenario)
-Goodies A (Wood, Stone, Meat, Bones. All of them are materials which can be used to create a butcher shop or some commercial buildings in AOE2)
-Goodies B (Very beautiful detailed things that is a wasted opportunity to exist only in ROR)
-Market Stall (No need for explanation)
-Sand Dune (Nature visual effect)
-Siege Equipment (Some of them fit well as ammo for siege units of AOE2. Also old siege buildings work well as a “memory” of AOE1 in AOE2, or as details)
-Statue (Maybe only the one shown in the picture. All of them are not really statue in a sense, and I would love more trees and more details.)
-Stone Fence (Different objects. They are small unbreakable walls, but visually beautiful for a town settings like Mesoamerican one? Roma definitely looks good with those if they are available in AOE2 though.)
-Tholos (Simply beautiful small buildings. I always want to build a park in AOE2 with those.)
-Tiles (Pavement again folk)
-Trireme Shipwreck (Pretty much anarchic since AOE2 ships have nothing related to Trireme, but I would love to add those in an AOE2 scenario as a tribute for AOE1 memories of mine)
-Weapon Stack (Again the anarchy is so high on this one, but those items can be used for RPG map purpose like D&D)
-Well A (Not sure the wells are overlaps?)
-Well B (It’s suck that the wells are beautiful yet not exist in AOE2)
-Wooden Fence (The same as Stone Fence)

===================================================================================

AOE2 Main game plus DLCs that can be added to ROR editor:
-Arch of Constantine (Roman Building)
-Barricade A (B, C, and D too. I missed them when playing ROR)
-Bridge (All variants. Seriously, why should I have all. Pretty anarchic I know, but they are beautiful.)
-Fence (A joke wall, but I miss them also
-Hut E (F and G too. Why only A B C D in ROR?)
-Ruins (Literally an abandoned Roman AOE1 Barrack.)
-Sea Gate (4 sides. Stats can be modified through triggers.)
-Sea Tower (Same as Sea Gate.)
-Sea Wall (Same as Sea Gate.)
-Storage (Look too tribal for a “Germanic” setting.)
-Temple of Heaven (“The more holy” version of Asian wonders. Just like Rome with their “Colosseum”)
-Tent (All Letters A B C D E. Nomadic buildings look too good.)
-Town Centre (Packed. Look good as a cart for roleplay purpose)
-Yurt E (F and G too. Nomadic buildings just good in my opinion.)
-Vases (Anarchic for sure. Vases are beautiful though. They are already big in AOE2 compared to a single human. I don’t find it an issue for ROR size people.)
-Huns Wonder (This maybe new. But Huns Wonder is just a ransacked Roman building.)

===================================================================================

I have consider those as things that developers can add/enable them again in the editors. For something that may overlapped like Barricades, I suggest FE can add them as “Small Barricade” or similar-like.

AOE ROR may looks bad in AOE2 and vice versa, but I don’t mind. I’m already aware of the situation which may happen if AOE2 mapmakers don’t want add ROR objects in their scenario. I believe it can be solved by a minor tweak to the name of the objects.

For example
-Sea Tower (AOE2)

Assuming map is using ROR dataset. Mapmaker can ignore this and using other assets of the editors.

Thank for reading and I really hope my proposal would come into reality for both of AOE2 and ROR datasets. As a mapmaker, I really love what FE made for ROR DLCs and base game of AOE2 plus DLCs. Also this probably not affect both games too much since it’s all visual side of scenarios. Take your time to perfect this game FE. Love AOE franchise.

Yeah I have extensively used a lot of the objects on this list for my RoR Olmec campaign. I’ve only completed the first scenario but it would be cool to have more assets both for AoE 2 and RoR!

All the ROR assets are so blurry - poor rendering/compression which needs to be fixed.
Also not enough Asian/Egyptian/Persian themed assets. :frowning:

Hasn’t noticed it, but yea, playing on low performance, it never strike to me that way until I look back.

Would Paifang gate from AOE2 editor fit enough into the ROR era? I have been checking it and clueless whether Paifang gate is accurated with the timeline.

I think Egypt one are in “Statue” things in “Other” of “Gaia”

No idea about Persian decoration.

There are a few Egyptian ones but not many.
I think that’s probably simply because there is a Roman, Macedonian and Sumerian/Akkadian campaign and not an Egyptian or Asian one.

East Asia kinda is a blind spot for AoE2 in general.
Neither Japanese, Chinese nor Koreans have their own campaign yet.
Also this cultural region hasn’t gotten any new civilisations since AoC if you don’t count the Vietnamese.

There is a reason why so many people want a “China split”.
