Scouts get stuck every game

:arrow_forward: ISSUE EXPERIENCED

Scouts and pretty much any melee units freeze very consistantly after ordering them to go away while fighting (hitting villagers as a common example) although after clicking second time they behave as intended. In a close look it feels either like units can’t find a path around the target they just hit or they get stuck in their own formation. This bug is very game changing since scouts get extra hits every time trying to retreat. This unit behavior also does not depend on what stance or formation I use

not sure steps are needed, the issue is easy to reproduce and very consistant
Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. attack a villager with group of scouts (any amount but usually its 3-5)
  2. while trying to retreat click units to anywhere u want them to go
  3. admire all ur scouts freeze and die to spearmen :slight_smile:

This problem only appeared in the last patch and before units just retreated without any freezes or delay

Looks like it’s behaving as if you’re holding down SHIFT and right-mousing to plant movement flags, or queuing such actions in succession. Are you doing that by accident, by any chance? Or is your keyboard’s SHIFT key starting to fail? If you type in notepad you don’t get a lot of random upper-case and lower-case letters while typing?

EDIT: Just tested. The ‘issue’ happens often for me for my villagers. If I have, say, 5 villys gathering wood and then drag-select all 5 and try to have them build multiple houses, farms, or buildings by SHIFT+Left-clicking, it will plant flags (queues tasks) instead of making them build the stuff immediately. The game won’t have them build the stuff until the villys are done depleting the tree(s) they’re working on. So, I have to manually move them to the farm or building foundations by just a simple right-mouse at this point so they get started on constructing. In my case, it is like the game thinks I’m trying to queue tasks, but that’s not what I’m trying to do. A little annoying, for sure, and happens quite a few times per game for me. Not sure the best way devs could fix my issue without more thought.

But I thought I would say that in case it helps troubleshoot what’s happening to your military, as it might be related to this. I’ve never noticed it happening for my military. As a test, try disabling this option and see if it fixes:

You can also try disabling all your mods and testing, in case they’re conflicting with the base game somehow. I notice you have at least one :wink: :pig: LOL!

Well so to my understanding it has nothing to do with shift queueing commands and the waypoint flags u may see on my video are just game-created waypoints that change as scouts attack a villager. Your case with shift queueing buildings is not quite what im talking about and Im also sure my shift button works properly and i do not press it while attacking/retreating with my units. The issue with frozen scouts not moving after attacking the target is clearly a bug that i can see people complain about since the last patch release. Also thanks for new waypoint behavior (didn’t know thats the thing) advice but as I tested it changes nothing

Yeah, very strange. Pretty sure I never see waypoint flags when I’m controlling military or attacking units unless I deliberately make them. Hope it can be fixed soon
