Scouts should have 0 attack in the Dark Age

What good does letting the Scout attack have?

  • Coinflip Scout battles, that really hurt the losers chances.
  • Animal laming.
  • Maybe a villager kill.

These are all negatives, not positives to me.

They add dramatic gameplay.

Why do I get the feeling this is again a ban evading former member.

OP’s account was made in 2021 and doesn’t have any obvious pointers that it’s a ban evader.

My first impression as well. In a short time frame 4 threads with ludicrous suggestions.

Properly an old account lying around by someone recently banned.

Like Floos said this is from 2021 and this person actually responds to people

They also add dramatic complaints to the forum.

Do people get banned for talking about changes they want in the game? You may as well ban half the forum lmao

Just curious, what were your thoughts on the changes to deer pushing? Because that is another fundamental change that actually made it into the game.

Leaving the winner with very few hp that won’t heal until castle age, making it futile to try laming, and if you’re getting chased you can turn the tide by using the terrain height bonus. A scout fight is a big gamble for both sides

Yeah. I’ve seen a lot of games where one scout dies early and it becomes really bad (vision advantage).

With the hill advantage, it looks fun if we were only controlling the scout, but we also have to manage our base.

A tradeoff. But if the other player stops caring for a while about his scout if he’s confident he struck first, he won’t react to a short retreat to that advantage and will realise only too late his scout is doomed.

The first hit decides a fair bit, and that is often a coin-toss.

It’s like do you really want that to be such a large factor of the game, checking for hill advantage whilst trying to work on your base (2 different screens as well). They added auto-scouting due to the frustrations, for example.

There is more than that. If the first hit is simultaneous, if both units have an order to strike at each other… players earlier in the list always strike first as they are processed earlier. So in that situation with no advantage P1 reliably wins over P2, so as P1 you can and should take the initiative. Won’t work with the slightest delay though.

Keep an eye on your minimap, if you see an enemy dot lurking around your scout’s location then expect a fight, you then only need to micromanage it for a few seconds to rush to a nearby hill then turn back so that they meet at an advantageous location. But otherwise just keep scanning for when a dot appears.

Keeping an eye on the mini-map is also not a source of joy. It’s fine when it’s an army later in the game, but for such an influential part, early scouting, I don’t think it should be the way it is sadly.

There isn’t much to do in the Dark Age, without the possibility of spicing it up with such trickeries it would become boring and always the same thing, limiting itself to whoever can best execute the one meta strategy…

If you’re a seasoned pro, maybe not, but there is plenty to do, like studying the map, making sure your villagers are all working perfectly, etc.
