Second DLC in 2025

When i said that Relic lay-offs would had a impact on AOE4 people said : what are you saying"? Two years for this DLC Is a joke.

This Is the last DLC by RELIC and the new AOE4 Will be developed by other studio and with Unreal Engine.

AOE4 Is only for Multiplayers

No more really contenta for single player gamers

At this point they could very well just go make some AoE-inspired MOBA ffs. It’s clear as water they don’t have any interest in keep properly developing this franchise anymore. The Definitive Editions were so good I really got my hopes up when they came out, but I guess that was just the passion of the small passionate studios (especially The Forgotten) doing their magic.

Microsoft/Xbox/World’s Edge never truly cared about delivering a new top tier AoE game, just tried to attract the big AoE II playerbase repeating the very same setting with new shiny graphics and marketing, then start to roll in low-effort DLCs. This is sad.

I’m not gonna lie I’m hype. Have you guys actually looked at the Steam page? There’s a ton of new buildings, units, and really cool mechanics for each one. I get wanting wholly unique civs but these all look different enough to where they could be their own civ, plus there’s still a chance we get completely new ones in the future. The elephant civ in particular looks sick!

I can appreciate a lot of things, 6 whole new biomes, the naming scheme for these variants, the actual addition of new models and unique units for them. These are all amazing improvements that we have been asking for.

Real, new civilizations are a bare minimum. It’s been 2 years, and the lack of transparency doesn’t help.

If they had delivered the bare minimum, all of the above would’ve been great, as they are generally an amazing upgrade from how they’ve tackled variants in the past. But, developing and delivering fresh and new civilizations are what I want to spend my money on, and they are a sign that the game is alive and kicking. This gives me the feeling that they’re barely keeping the lights on, despite how well AoE4 has been doing.

And after all of this, the lack of communication is just exhausting.

4 new variants
and a Rogue-lite SINGLE PLAYER ONLY experience
AoE IV is going downhill in content I guess

The same people that dismissed, betrayed and gaslighted a whole community of players of a promising Early Modern Era Age game is making these obnoxious decisions.

Nothing new

Ugg, the single player content is a rogue-like mode. I don’t care for rogue-like games, they always just seem incomplete and use the rogue-like part to try to keep people playing. The variant cultures aren’t really that fun compared to new civilizations. They probably were going to sell the variants as a separate DLC but now aren’t able to even make new civilizations anymore so they just have to release their DLC ideas now.

Yeah they’re done doing new civs, there’s no budget for for new civs it will just be variants too, and the same with aoe2de.

I am sure all of this has been done on purpose
Worlds Edge is making this atrocious for people leave AoE IV and keep milking AoE II in perpetuity
The Age of Empires franchise will remain stuck in II forever
You have done it Age II fans, your game will be the only Age game

A huge disappointment
2 years and the CANCELLATION of a ANNOUNCED DLC for this?
Just not worth the wait. Not worth the wait at all!

No. Im sure they are working on 4 DLCs for AoE II at the same time

I never see an inversion in the decline of quality and production value. This is it.

I believe the design themselves will be okay after years of experience. But the efforts are lower and lower. No new voicelines and architecture for years. Now there is even no new scenarios.

But we’ll have new creative ways to defend WE and a new iteration of euphemism and toxic positivity. That’s more exciting.

1600 UTC on thursday they’ll do a presentation for it and also do an interview. We’ll get a chance to hear from them on what to expect from the DLC and a bit about their thought process on it.

Want to learn more about upcoming DLC Dynasties of the East? Tune in to the Xbox @ gamescom Broadcast on Thursday the 21st at 9am PT to catch an exclusive look and interview with the devs.

No budget for what they are not interested in
That is for sure!
Just ask the whole AoE III community

No new standard solo content. I was hoping for new battles at least, they introduced it in the last DLC and there isn’t many of them.
I like new biomes, but that’s about it.
I feel the franchise is fading.

A campaign and one or two new civs would have been nice.

Done with the game for the moment.

Do you guys know when we are able to play the Preview ?

And it turns out the “surprise” is a rougelike mode. Whoa so excited.

I mean it could be okay on its own. Not when it devours proper sp campaigns and scenarios.

Since V&V people have been already pleading: don’t give us surprises for god’s sake. Just give us something proper and solid. Not your cheap “experiments”. Not your fake “innovations”. Not your big fancy words and your blaming the community to expect otherwise.

The two AOMR DLCs are both normal and solid. Do you see this type of cringe overhyping for them?

I could feel your fatigue. No worries. You guys don’t have to make this game forever and we don’t need to buy it either.

Some feedback from content creators on youtube:

No matter how you feel about variants, I do want to say something. So, first of all, devs don’t make the decision on what’s coming, right? As in, they’re not the ones putting in money for the development of the game, right? The developers are developing the game. Someone else is making the decisions of what gets put in the game, how much money gets put in the game. So, the question that people got to realize is not whether do we do you want a variant or do you want an original civ? Obviously, we would all prefer original civs.

This is AoE4 when it’s at its best, and it’s going to grow bigger. Now, we’re going to go from 18 civs to 22 civilizations. That’s a lot. It’s a lot of work for me, too. I will say that much. So, dynasties of the East, what does that mean? Well, it means we’re getting four new variant civilizations. And you might be thinking, “Oh, no. Variant civilizations. It’s not real civ, I don’t want to buy something for a lot of money that isn’t a real DLC.” There’s a lot of critique, but I will say this. I have played it and I will say this much. It’s not variant civilizations as the negative impression was back in the day. These are real civilizations. These are such a great concept, taken and done right. It’s not bad. So, take it from me. This is brand new gameplay. it’s not reused.

So, it’s a little frustrating because we got two new variant saves in the most recent DLC. We’ve got the House of Lancaster and we’ve got the Knights Templar. I really like Knights Templar. I thought it was really cool. House Lancaster I don’t care for too much, (…), all in all they were variants of existing civilizations already so we thought surely we got another DLC coming later this year. This is the one where they’re going to give us one or two new civilizations for sure so it’s just absolutely misses the mark and is so disappointing to see variants again. It’s not that these are like not fun to play but we love our stand alone civs.

More videos are coming in by the minute, but these three quotes capture the vibes pretty well. Even the people who are excited for the DLC have some reservations on there not being new civs. It’s hard to say whether or not it’s going to feel the same as the first time we received variant civlizations. I’m curious to see how they actually play.

Knights Templar and House of Lancaster are a complete departure from their base civs. Knights Templar much more so, but both are unique enough to be considered their own civ.

Gameplay wise it is exciting. It still stings to not get new stand-alone base civs.

The real concern is not just gameplay because gameplay would always be the top priority. Even with zero budget for new models they’d still put most efforts on gameplay. But the decline in production value.

People may not even notice but Byzantines and Japanese don’t have evolving voice lines anymore.

Variants mean no new voicelines, music, building models, etc, and fewer new unit models. The parts most pvp people would overlook but lacking too much would make it feel “cheap”. And this is all cutting corners on the “less important” aspects. Who knows when it will stop.

The “Macedonian dynasty” basically being a reused Viking civ with Greek dialogue and architecture also smells that way.

And for sp contents it’s more obvious: we got from full length campaigns with cinematic, to powerpoint, to standalone scenarios, to none.

Then people were saying “give them time!” And then “Crosses and Roses were developed by FE separately!” And here we now have what Relic had been cooking for two years: it barely has more values than Crosses and Roses

Remember at release the biggest selling point was “all civs have unique visuals” and “documentaries in campaigns”? Both gone now. They’re reverting to the same civ design philosophy of earlier AOEs without admitting it.
