I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in the next DLC. I’m a little hopeful, even though I know it’s not much real, that the Czechs will appear in the DLC. Are you looking forward to it too?
Looking forward to it. Pretty sure one of the civs will be Vikings. The second civ should be non-european. Koreans maybe
I would like to see more nomadic civs like Cumans or Huns. But Vikings would be cool too. Did the devs announce anything about it officially yet ? I am also excited to see the next dlc asap.
I think so too, more precisely I’m guessing Denmark, maybe Norway? And 4 variant civs.
Unfortunately, we don’t know anything officially.
There was a pole of which civs do people in AOE 4 a few years ago. In that pole Byzantines and japanese were 1 and 2 . So they were added. 3 was Viking, 4 I dont remember
I just hope they don’t choose some of my concept civs (Aztecs, Spanish, Timurids) yet, because ever since Lancaster and the Templars came out, as well as the changes to the base civs, I’ve had a lot of ideas to improve them.
- I think I’ll do an Aztec 2.0 Concept, but with the name “MEXICA,” since the idea is to recreate Tenochtitlan, mainly the Sacred Enclosure, and make it like the "Lancaster Castle" surrounded by "Manors, only it would be the “Templo Mayor”, surrounded by “Teocallis” (shrines).
On the other hand, I hope Spain, or Castile, has the Tercio Pikemen and Tercio Arquebusiers for the 4th Age.
In Sultan Ascend, the Japanese come with many problem in their representation, not having “Tanegashima arquebusiers” when they came out, instead they have handcannoners (which has been criticised by many japanese players). Also, they lack their own Stone Wall model, instead they have the chinese model.
Although, in the last DLC, the way they made the Templars, with so much historical representation, it looks good how they’ll design the next civilizations, especially if they’re not Variants, but New Civs.
About the DLC, INFORMATION
Officially a month ago:
And officially a few days ago:
It says there are no new ones “Yet.” So I assume the DLC is in development, but they don’t have anything definitive to announce yet. I guess they’re balancing things based on how the first DLC civs were received.
In my opinion:
-
Templars are the best, for their shape and style. Yes, they’re a bit broken in water maps, but its mechanics, they’re the best.
-
Lancaster is brilliant in its design. But yes, it was very broken when it came out, and needed some balancing. Much loved by people who love to play Turle, but hated by those who hate Turtle players.
As long as things remain historically accurate and the gameplay is good, everything will be fine. Balance is somehting that come later, when pros discover which combos are broken and which not.
Castilians and Aztecs — I hope they add them in the next DLC.
I want to see a civilization or variant that brings new elephants.
I’m tired of only seeing the Delhi Sultanate with elephants. (The Byzantines have elephants, but they’re the same as the Delhi Sultanate, so it doesn’t change anything for me.)
I need new skins and styles for the elephants.
I hope it won’t be too many years before I can see some of these civilizations or variants: Vijayanagara, Chola, Ayutthaya (Thailand), Mughal, and Timurids.
Spanish, aztecs and incas.
We’ll probably see the announcement at Gamescom in less than a month, just like with the Sultan’s Ascend DLC.
Probably 2-3 new civs and another 2-3 variants. I’d like to see Spanish and Aztecs, but i’m just happy the game seems to be in a good place and keeps getting new DLC
Dlc will probably have native american civs and spanish. Most people wanted that. They maybe add some variant civs too.
That’s what I’m hoping for the most, specifically Incas.
The variant civ’s are a good way for them to upgrade graphics on existing civ’s. So yes, I hope we see some more, the upgraded graphics (like on the Byzantines) are spectacular.

" World’s Edge is heading back to Cologne for gamescom 2025, bringing with it the legendary worlds of Age of Empires and Age of Mythology: Retold. With a significant presence on the show floor, the studio will be showcasing the depth and diversity of the Age franchise, offering fans a fresh look at beloved titles and teasing a few surprises along the way. Whether you’re a seasoned strategist or a newcomer to the battlefield, there’s something epic in store for everyone."
Yes, for me they will go there: 4 big civs (Spanish, Vikings, Aztecs and Incas) and then 2 variants (Tatars for the Mongols and Dravidians, including Vijayanagara for Delhi) like the last DLC… TSA brought 6 civs, including (and all in all, the variants, except for Juana and a bit of the OotD, were quite unique)…
Yes, note that the Genitour is the only unit that doesn’t have voices (that means they’re working on Spanish voices for a Spanish civ and that includes the Genitour)…
Yes, for the Atacama map… I expect Incas to be similar to AoE 2 and 3 (chasqui as scout, maceman as MAA, kamayuk as spearman, huaraca/bolas warrior as anti-inf and anti-cav or building unit, priestess instead of monk and the Chincha as archer ship)…
Yes, with the variant civs they can do something with the architecture, but precisely because they are variants I don’t think they vary too much from the civs they are based on…with the main civs we can see more unique architectures, especially the meso-civs…
Yes, don’t expect too much from AoE 4… at most we’ll see something from the Japanese pantheon of Retold, some of the AoE 2 DLC (probably Chronicles) and yes, after that we’ll see something from AoE 4…
The Spanish absolutely have to be in the game, whether as Castilians, Aragonese, or however they decide to include them. Very few people outside of Spain know how important the Iberian Peninsula was during the Middle Ages in the fight against Islam—essentially carrying out their own crusade, as even the Pope said, refusing to let them join the fight in Jerusalem until they had reconquered Toledo. Castile stopped the Muslim advance into Europe, just as it would later do against the Ottomans.
This is often overlooked, but both Castile and Aragon became extremely powerful, even at sea, dominating the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
The game will remain incomplete until Spain, the Aztecs, and the Incas are added. With those three, we would finally have all the most important civilizations in the world represented. Also, including Native American civilizations would bring a fresh new feel to the game and attract a much larger Hispanic audience.
There were only two empires who stopped Ottomans not to conquer all of europe and caused them to suffer heavy casualties. And they were Russians and Timurids. But of course Spain is important country and i would like to see them in the game as well.
Of course, the game needs an expansion like The Conquerors (Spanish, Aztecs, and instead of Mayans, Incas and maybe some Koreans)…
