Shift Clicked Villagers Don't Drop Off Resources

  • Game Version: 100.17.38008.0 (496760R)

  • Build Number: 16048929 (Steam Build ID)

  • Platform: Steam

  • Operating System: Windows 11

Issue:

Shift clicking with villagers when building a resource drop off point will cause them not to drop off the resources they’re holding as would be the case when not shift clicking. The behaviour is inconsistent as some villagers might still drop off some resources, but most of them don’t.

If you’re not aware of this, it can lead you to losing a lot of resources. E.g. building a TC with gold vills and then shift clicking them onto food makes them lose any gold they were carrying once they start gathering food as it’s not dropped off upon completing the TC.

Since this not occur when not shift clickin/queuing actions and since it is inconsistent, this does not feel like intended behaviour but rather a bug.

Repro Steps:

  1. Gather any resource with some vills
  2. Take note of how many resources they are holding
  3. Build any resource gathering spot and shift click them unto a different resource
  4. Notice that your resource stockpile does not increase by the whole amount of the previous resource type the vills were gathering - it is lost.

I feel compelled to bring this up again after the recent change of how villagers prioritise resources upon finishing a drop off site.

This change means that in many cases it’s impossible to predict what the villagers will do upon completion of a drop site. For instance Greek vills wandering to a far away wood line upon completing a storehouse next to a gold mine as has been mentioned multiple times on this forum and also experienced by me personally.

Now, I consider this unpredictability annoying, especially in competitive play, so the only way around this is to shift-click. But this reintroduces the problem of lost resources as per the original post. So now we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place - you either lose resources by shift-clicking, or you lose APM and resources by not shift-clicking and then needing to go back to the drop off site to herd the villagers back to the intended resource.

Some possible solutions:

  • fix the shift-click issue.
  • decrease the distance that vills scan for resources - it really is ridiculous how vills wander a considerable distance from the storehouse built right next to a gold mine just to chop down trees.
  • make the villager resource priority somehow manageable from the settings, let the player choose which resources are prioritised in case of multiple ones nearby. I don’t mind if a particular resource is prioritised, but I think it’s a major flaw when it becomes unpredictable.
  • just make vills go to the resource closest to the drop off point that they finished.

Hey @Siniara, thank you for the report. We have managed to reproduce the issue and it’s now being tracked  Cheers!
