Should only important Empire be in AOE3?

in the historical period that the game covers this map transforms a few times.

I still fail to see how historical “relevance” is supposed to have any impact on whether or not a civ is a good choice or not. All that matters is if an interesting and fun civ can be built on top of it. I’d rather they put in a tiny island that they have ideas for than something uninspired that was chosen because it was the top of the list. Look at age of mythology and how the very sensible choice of China turned out terrible while the utter nonsense move of Atlantis turned out interesting and much more solidly put together. The choice of what civ to add matters so much less than how it should be added that you almost can’t even compare the two.

Partly yes, but the Sokoto Caliphate was ruled by Usman Dan Fodio and his descendants throughout the nineteenth century until they were conquered by the British in 1903.

In fact they did it for Queen Amina of Zazzau (1533-1610), who was a very important Hausa queen at the end of the sixteenth century, being similar to Queen Elizabeth of England or Elizabeth the Catholic for the Nigerians…then the flag of the Hausa is of the Caliphate of Sokoto…

Of course dividing civs in aoe 3 I do not see it as feasible as in aoe 2 …

I do agree with that statement!

In fact the chronology of the game for the Hausa would be from 1576, with the coronation of Amina as queen until the conquest of Sokoto by the British in 1903.

No longer look for so many laps to the civs that get into the game…are preferences of the devs and as long as they are fun and are more or less related to the period of the game, welcome to be…

In fact the chronology of the game for the Maltese would be from 1530 (when they take possession of Malta and Gozo) until 1798 (when they are conquered by Napoleon)…so looking at it like this, the Maltese fit perfectly into the game…

No one ever said they don’t fit the period. Their issue is that they are an insignificant island.

But they are not? Also that argument is pretty elitist view of a history and game.

Honestly I feel bad for any Maltese people out there… people being a ■■■■ and heaping insults at their nation… I am afraid what would happen if Korea DO gets announced as next civ…

Saying Malta should not be in the game is not insulting the Maltese. I would be extremely disappointed if my country was made a full civ.

Korea would be an excellent civ choice. It is a relatively small country, but it still dwarfs Malta in all aspects.

For comparison, the little blue speck in this image is Malta

Size of a country does not matter in telling how important it is.
Next you are going to say Vatican City is unimportant despite it housing one of important religious leader of the world.

First of all, yes, the country of Vatican City is very insignificant. The Papacy would function just fine without a country.

Second, the Papal States dwarfed Malta for this entire period.

Like I said size of a nation doesn’t factor in how important they are. That is like a grade school level of judging how important a nation is. Next you will say good old netherlands is unimportant compared to France or that Switzerland is unimportant nation of Europe.

When I say Korea or the Papal States dwarfed Malta, I mean that in every possible sense, not just size. Nearly every country out there eclipses Malta in political, cultural, economic, and geographic importance.

The game is called Age of Empires. At a minimum that should mean the countries under consideration are actually visible on a map.

Like I said size doesn’t matter.
What is important is what they did and what they contained. They contained history of mediterranean in a nutshell and defended Ottomans when they were strongest

And it isn’t like it was a small victory. Suleman DID NOT went “eh we will get them next time” HE WAS MAD.
Any historian worth his/her salt will say it was an important battle in European history

By “they” you mean primary Spaniards and Italians…

That is just like saying Korean war was only won by UN and S.Koreans did nothing.
The main leader was Grand Master of Knights of ST John you know.
