Should TCs be buildable in age 2?

Playing and watching AOM a bit a dynamic that comes up is being able to go for a second TC as a counter to an opponent doing an aggressive strat or a fast age 3.

Would that be something that helps the aoe 3 dynamic? the answer in age 3 to a FF is more often a rush or timing (greed is often seen more if its an FI)

But should say TC build limit increase at every age up (like with how it is in Empire wars). Port bonus would not need to change but would this be a healthy change the game?

Early double TC has always been meta when it was doable(aoe2 and aom comes to mind).

I think the only reason why this isnt possible in aoe3 is because the devs intended to create a faster paced game. I am not sure how this is going to impact the meta in aoe3. it’s probably going to slow it down, make new builds possible. Guess a mod can help us understand how it will go.

Ottoman with additional early tc would be a problem
Inca (and ports ofc) can have a second tc in age2 which alows for extended age2 play, but i think both prefer to go fortress anyway ^^

I think the main factor is the availability of ressource crates and its just not worth it to stick arround in age 2 to boom on 2 tcs, when u could just aswell go age 3 and boom on 3 tcs

I think Otto might benefit the least from this tbh, the current way it plays out otto can use the cover of their very powerful age 3 shipments to make the TCs with say 1000 wood

in age 2, where otto military shipments are just 5 jans, 7 azaps and 3 delis, its a lot harder to put the 500w into it

Hard to tell for sure…
If earlier TCs encourage more age2 play, i imagine ottoman profit more from their free vills, that allow them to keep up with early game pressure.
If the meta stays at ff, despite age2 tcs, nothing changes^^’

I think they’d use it with a TP stagecoach play in late age 2 (boom and apply force to stop the opponent from aging if possible). Add a TC later using wood from the TPs which are probably being boosted by Silk Road.

What would other civs do?
I think…

Ports: loose a lot of uniqueness and just play regular
Russia: would profit, since they can stay age2 well and
get a better eco
Germans: would still ff just for shipments
Dutch: no much change, since banks suck up all wood
Spain: maybe more logistician + golden era play in an
extended age2? But ff is probably still stronger
India: wouldnt struggle with wood production and could
stay age2

… I guess a lot of civs that dont get 2 falc shipment could stay age 2

Hausa as well, for the low-ish price of 500 influence can make up to 4 TCs in age 2 (if you choose the right one of 5 ageup options). It’s actually very cost-effective if you ship 700inf + 600 inf and spam out TC Wagons for 400 inf per. Then you can build hyper-cost-effective Universities too, to generate even more inf if your opponent gives you the room.

having 2x the eco of someone early on will make snowballing and scaling dangerous; anyone who played that rift map when it had the TC treasure knows exactly that. some civs (otto, russia in particular) as well as inca and india benefit tremendously. now having it as just an option? well then turtle civs like inca italy otto will just benefit more since they have gimmicks that allows eco to grow with minimal map need (i.e. ways to make stuff with limited food).

Could be a fun idea for like a single map to test, a treasure that unlocks age2 TC next to every player’s spawn. Thats as far as id go to start

It still has the treasure. It’s just no longer in ranked - which in hindsight was a mistake. But hey, at least I can admit it and learn.

Fun treasure though innit?

There’s a huge difference to AoM and aoe3 since AoM uses settlements which are spread around the map. If aoe3 had that element it would be a different conversation imo

You can build village centers anywhere, which are basically TCs that don’t provide population.

I have no clue what that is. Is that new for retold?

To be fair, the worst was when it would only spawn on the enemy side. But the maps solid and yeah its still in ranked i think so clearly people liked it once the imbalance was fixed

I swear someone coded it to do this vs otto so they always had 2 tcs vs my 1 tho
:stuck_out_tongue:

there was a bug where the constraints were too tight and it wouldn’t spawn sometimes

no, i can 5000% be certain it’s not in the team ranked map set

Rift had it? I knew it was and still is on Swahili coast

Technically different treasures. Swahili has one without guardians and it’s always present. The one on rift is only there in team and is guarded by the”Romulus Twins” or a caricature of them anyway.

Yes. It’s kinda confusing tbh. It’s like a small TC that has all the functions of a real TC but doesn’t provide pop nor fires without garrison. Kinda of how TCs are in aoe3.
