there is
“faster gathering”, which is what it sounds. the villagers are faster at gathering from the resource. that means the villagers deplete the node faster, without getting any more resources, but can also be tasked to something else.
“resources last longer”, also does what it sounds like: the collection rate is unchanged, but whenever they take 10 resources, only 8 (or so) are removed from the node. This means the player gets more total resources, but it also takes longer.
“drops off more resources” basically combines the advantages of the two, without the downsides: whenever they would usually drop off 10 resources 2 more are conjured out of thin air. this effectively increases gather rate by 20%, but the resource still lasts as long as it would for a standard civ. so they get more total resources, without depleting them faster.
so mapuche’s +20% drop off is just objectively better than the Frank’s +15% faster gather rate.
They don’t actually gather those resources faster so if it takes a Briton 3 seconds to get 10f it takes a Mapuche 3 seconds to get 10 food as well (this isn’t likely the right number but it’s all for example)
However when the resource hits the dropsite the player is getting 2 more food. Essentially increasing his gather speed by 20% and also having 20% conservation because you got 12 resources but only took 10
Also the Franks military bonuses work better in combination. Scouts with extra HP which only cost Food work well with a food bonus.
Mapuche don’t really have a 2nd eco bonus. The only other thing they have is Cavalry generating 3 Gold with each kill which is only really relevant in the late game.
The Franks Berry bonus is there to smooth the transition to farms, which have more food since you get the upgrades for free. Franks have also been buffed in the last patch since those upgrades now give additional food to existing farms which benefits Franks more then other civs since they get those upgrades first. So the 2 Frank bonus work very well in combination making the entire food economy a lot smoother.
Exactly my point, since last patch Franks farm upgrade bonus has been buffed. Franks got the berry bonus as an add-on bonus. It was not part of their initial design. Franks don’t need the berry bonus anymore. If franks berry bonus was removed, Mapuche could have gotten the bonus as 25% faster working foragers. Frank scout rush is as good as Magyars with the HP bonus making up for the extra attack and Franks get a quantum jump in castle age with knights +20 HP without any upgrade.
Champi-line upgrades being free or 50% discount on settlement technologies would be a far better alternative. The first would have helped them play like magyar scout rush. The later would have made their economy pretty versatile. The devs can’t seem to think of such simple bonuses. They are wrapped in knots with some convoluted ideas. The malian bonus is itself a poor idea despite the reduced benefit.
Which Malian bonus is bad? If it’s the infantry one then Gambesons is closing the gap on its power level quickly. The wood saving on buildings is still probably the goat although the loss of farms sorta hurt it.
Is it the gold? I believe the tech for such a bonus has always existed in the hardware even back in the day. It’s worse than Turks in all technicality unless gold nodes are super limited! In earlier incarnations when it was gold mining tech free it was STILL worse because Turks auto had that in dark and then could either skip gold mining or just go for it anyway to like slurp up the map. Its semi more frontloaded version of the Mayan bonus but that effects all resource nodes
In any case I don’t want to frontload all the good bonuses because we still need more civs with said bonuses and the fun region units. Like I think the Champi is an interesting take although would it really have been so bad if it could use Gambesons in some civs?
The Eagle is still loved despite having now only 2 homes. In randomizer there is a less than 4% chance you can play with the Eagle… and that’s just a crime!
So how do we do right what the devs don’t? I say we make a team, I can be the civ conceptualizer, we need some coders an artist and maybe a researcher… who’s in?
You mean Sicilians, right? That change benefits Sicilians above all, there’s no question about it.
This.
A minor change in the Franks’ gameplay, if I may say so.
Yeah, but the Malians’ bonus had been something else for a long time, and then when the Bohemians were introduced, they changed it another two times. It wasn’t a bad design to begin with.
and how many of those civs have people actually played with? It’s like claiming that you are a great car mechanic because you have been drawing cars for years.
Respect for waiting as long as you have, but to be honest, I looked at some of your concepts, and while there were some good ideas, many of them lacked anything particularly special about them, and a lot of the ideas were too gimmicky and not particularly logical. You should be thinking more about a central identity for each civ and something that will make them stand out from others. I know I struggle with that too, so it’s not just you. You’ve been doing this almost as long as I’ve been alive, though, so maybe you have insight that I don’t, but from what I’ve seen, a lot of your ideas are kinda lackluster, nowhere near the polish that the devs expect.
I drew this Svan tower the other day at church in only 10 minutes or so. I was bored while waiting and saw the whiteboard and knew what to do. Google helped a bit when I couldn’t get the top quite right.
forgotten Empires is barely an infant mod. Look at this lineup. I was READY! You can all go say you want me dead or what have you. Maybe one day you’ll get your hopes resolved sooner than later… but for now I gotta keep waiting or hoping.
I would follow the limits of Genie engine to a t. And would tell others to stop crafting if they broke the rules. HARSHLY! I had no room for rule breakers and auras back then and hope those jerks still are suffering!
Okay that was a joke before the pitchforks come out
And the only reason it’s hard to prove my creativity goes back further is because AokHeaven is kinda garbled
I haven’t read it all, but it seems like a mixed bag to me. Some good ideas, but other bits are rubbish.
PS. Incidentally, this isn’t just about you specifically, but I don’t understand what problem forum or Reddit users have with the names of African peoples in particular. It’s as if they were opening up a modern political map and saying, “Ah! These are missing!”.
PPS. But the Swiss, too, are constantly mentioned at random, without any context.
