I found byz cannot even fight when enemy using their ability, even with 2 landmark ability, not to say japanese can also use onnamusha.

Yep, Japanese cavalry does feel a lot more tanky due to its unique trait that deflects the damage.
Byz cataphracts are slow, due to that, it gets countered by almost every unit.
Catapracts are very good unit with their trample ability you can bypass the melee units and attack the anti heavy ranged units its so op.It also does damage on the way.Landmark abilities also so good too that flask ability nearly mades them invincible.They are so good.

They are not good. Trample is awful.

You need a strong army to use this ability, by the time you own such, your investment on calvary landmarks is total failure compared with the other 2 landmarks.

Is it just me, or does trample seem to be a bit difficult to use effectively? I find that cataphracts are often not worth the investment in the long run.
In long game you prefer limitanei which are cheap and reliable than up cataphracts to use theme as tanks in fights. The only way to use cav in byz is to mass it, and it’s pretty impossible in a ranked game with normal players. They won’t allow you to do that.
