Yeah but skirms aren’t necessarily the reason for that.
Actually this is quite a good idea!
Hahaha that unit is just useless
Ok sorry, I meant not that kind of buff for the TK.
And it’s not completely useless, it does have some situational use.
This is a bit difficult to balance imo
Fine with the age up discount, but the civ needs more help in the early stages, where it has received nothing. Unless you add SE (which makes a lot of sense thematically), then even 20% cheaper age up + SE would justify a weak start, since you will get very solid late game.
Fair, but not sure why this should fix it
TC bonus is solid imo. Overall I am not against a buff for the civ
I am favorable to buff spanish a bit, not sure if this is the way to go
This sounds strange
This would be a nerd to two civs which are a bit too strong imo. I cannot disagree…
I mean, this may work, but it’s doesn’t really improve them, that much, and it further weak their conqs, that now they would need a tech more before being used. So you would basically improve their monks+siege rush but nerf their conqs rush, trading one thing for the other.
I instead have another suggestion, which is that they get a new bonus that trash line upgrades (Elite skirms, pike, halb, light cav and hussar upgrades) cost no gold.
This would be an improvement on their general tech tree, and they would become a trash civ, which already is their most distinctive features.
Fun fact: the bonus for all gunpowder units is explicitly applied except for Conqs, for which the bonus is natively applied.
Let us help them in Cavalry and Gunpowder, and help them make win games win before gold runs out. The latter is not likely to happen in an average length game these days.
It’s not necessarily a late game buff. Halbs and hussars are used as a support units and meatshields way before gold runs out, that because this way you save all the gold for other more powerful units or siege. This way you would save even more gold and way before, since those upgrades are researched right when you hit imp. (270g in castle age and 1200/1650g in imp isn’t a little buff).
Combined with their blacksmith bonus, it can allow them to put all the gold in their gold units. For example, their knight rush, could be way more efficient if you don’t need to spend gold on the elite skirms upgrade, to train a few to support them.
Yeah, then it may work, not a crazy buff but it would be balanced.
Thb Spanish have started to experience some issue when the conqs got nerfed and the tower rush as well. Their UU is what has carried their castle age for 20 years.
Actually they have an ok eco with faster builders and discounted blacksmith.
the discount on trash upgrades allows them to spend that gold on monks (especially if they were natively buffed by the civ) as an example the current savings on the black smith allow you to train an extra monk for free in castle age, 3 monks if you consider the attack upgrade, and cheaper trash upgrades means regardless of the counter unit required you get free monks
either way resources saved can be spent or used at the market
yeah kind of a pity when a civ revolves around a single castle unit (even though there are a few civs like that)
i feel like the missionary is also supposed to be a big plus for the civ, like how the mongols so heavily rely on the mangudai, whereas the imperial skirmisher doesnt add as much.
ive had a lot of success using the missionary since it can actually survive after converting knights, and keep up with the knight blob but they are so micro intensive >.<
Let us show that a civ can be built around UUs and still win. Make Missionaries great!
Bloodlines costing no gold means scrush is decent (gold comes quite late in a scrush). Then the Bloodlines helps both Conqs and Missionaries, effectively even delaying Sancity (15 HP for 120G vs 20 HP for 150F). Either an extra monk or picking up Sancity early, the Missionary rush can be great.
About the unit, the unit has a base speed of 1.1, which is then increased to 1.265 with Fervor, helping them keep pace with Conqs who have a base speed of 1.3. Both are affected by Husbandry though.
The concept of Imperial Skirmisher is flawed as much as that of Elephant Archer. They are good only because they are skirmishers, but giving an upgrade of a trash unit in a team game feels weird. Genitours on the other hand are a completely new unit which can be handy in a pinch. So I am gonna edit the list.
