The game has been out for 25 years, why no spear cavalry unit?
Maybe can be the next UU for any future releases.
think of the spear cavalry..
Edit: Yes, I am referring to a cavalry unit, with a spear, that has bonus to other cavalry units, pretty much a spearman on a horse.
Steppe lancer, keshik, magyar huszar, technically the coustillier (uses his polearm as a spear for the charged attack)… quite a lot use spears, even though it’s mostly cosmetic.
It would be perfectly possible to have a proper spear cavalry (spear charge after starting from enough distance like the samurai then use the sword when the charge is depleted) but for the regular knight it would change the balance too much.
You mean a mounted Halberdier?
Would be too powerful as a trash unit. More HP, able to chase cavalry, and more pop efficient.
Who says it needs to be a trash unit?
balancing the cost to produce the unit, and the train time should made any unit possible

Except camels are bad against elephants, unlike halbs.
Always thought camels should deal additional bonus damage to elephants too.
First, the Jinete was traditionally armed with spears.
The more common weaponry was nevertheless the Lance.
And ofc there are famous units that excelled in fighting other cavalry forces.
Namede Jinete against light cav and eg the Winged Hussars of poles (as a “medium” cav unit) against heavy cav.
They are both already in the game, but are kinda misrepresented. I already made several attempts to express how I would have added them in the game to be represented more accurate.
In general anti-cav cavalry was rarely fielded. In general Cav was optimized to fight infantry troups and/or utilize the mobility in various ways to get an advantage.
spearman cavalry?
spearman calvary, and you pick came..
ok.
It’s usually called a lance when used on horseback, even if it’s the exact same pointy stick used by foot soldiers.
Also lances aren’t that much anti-cav (yes the reach helps) as a spearwall’s anti-cav effect is having a forest of spears, a lancer formation won’t have such a high density. The point is having one massively powerful charge, putting all the mass and intertia of the horse and the rider toward one point. Which is devastating no matter against who.
Bonus points if it can outrange pikes
So it would fit a charge attack mechanism better. Similar to the samurai (to require some distance for the horse to gather enough speed and deploy the lance properly) but much stronger
You can call it whatever you want but it has the same functionality as a camel rider.
