Stealing boars shouldn't be banned- A response

Sure, I remember tower hopping being a legitimate strategy, not sure that I really miss those times. I mean yes, games were hilarous, but basing a game on quirky mechanics is not inviting to new people. Which is why I would like to see something happen to make the game more appealing/less frustrating for newcomers.

Nice suggestion

Lets say Aoe2 is like Chess,
Drush is Sicilian Opening, Evans Gambit is Trushing

Laming is as if you would take a piece of the enemy at the start, color it to your color and put it on your side of the board, and then insist to play this game with your opponent

I don’t agree with the suggestion of boars and sheeps are someones unchallangable property. It’s a war game, it’s completely about fighting over map control and ressources.
It’s just in the heads of some people to think boars and sheeps are their property, but they are clearly designed a way they can be taken by anybody. Like all ressources in the game.

And why is this OK with the civ pick? Some Civs have an advantage like taking 2-3 enemy pieces.

Only if chess was played blindfolded and by “take an enemy piece” you mean “blindly run a pawn up the board and hope you get it to the enemy baseline and get a queen out of it”

Salute for keeping up the fight. What’s next? Banning tower rushes, quick walls, TC drops, etc because people don’t like to play against them. This is just immature.

You just called myself and countless others “awful personalities” because you don’t like the strategy we chose to use in a strategy game. THAT is poor personality.

I think Persian x2 HP TC should starts in Feudal.

I am going to feel sorry for the lamers who got hurt by @BouffantBloom32’s words :frowning:

Do you think there won’t be any consequences after ruining countless of people’s game?

nope, it starts in dark age. The +5% work rate bonus from dark age is gone though

I never said I was hurt. I only called out his poor behavior as a general principle of community management. Quite the opposite: I actually only started laming in response to this childish backlash against people who lame. If people are going to be immature, it is not good practice to coddle them.

I know it. I’m saying that it should start in feudal to discourage Douche strat

On those on the subject of nerfing douche civs, preventing boar steals, etc… Is the game allowed to start in Dark Age? Do you all want to play empire wars forever? What the crowd is proposing is practically akin to pushing Empire wars, by roundly limiting the already limited, usually niche options available in the Dark Age. I, for one, do not see Empire wars as a net good and I don’t support moving into that being the base starting point of the game. Some of the most ridiculous and amazing games ever played started with someone making a dark age play.

It is extremely disappointing that players are figuring out an arbitrary time for when they believe the game should begin and then castigating people who disagree with them. You just know that if the devs wanted to push Regicide fortress as the main mode of play these same people would lose their minds freaking out about how much unique gameplay is going to be lost to it. These players just like their own brand of AOE2 play, like everyone else, and the superiority complex is overbearing and nauseating.

Coming from the very low 600 elo player. I dont care about laming. If you get it good for you.it doesnt put me behind that much. I end up making a farm slightly earlier. If your so stuck on your build orders that you cant adapt how do you all get higher elos. I dont lame as i perfer to focus on getting quicker but dont think it should be banned. If you weren’t allowed to do it then the boar should be locked like deer.

What about you get a ping when the enemy attacks “your” boar (or any boar?)? So there is a lot more risk and counterplay at the top levels, plus it would be a lot more exciting as a viewer.

I am in 900 range and agree that laming is pretty trivial, I don’t get lamed very often but on the occasions someone has pulled it off it has very little impact on my age up time compared to theirs or on my military size - it’s a pretty defining feature of lower elos to float tons of resources near constantly and losing the food from one boar slows me down far less than forgetting to build a building to click the age up button at the right time or getting housed, it would screw me up more if someone used their scout to harass villagers until I managed to kill it because I would forget to do other things while I was dealing with it, might get tc idle time or send too many villagers to one resource, forget to build a barracks etc.

You are speaking my language. I have had worse games from getting housed then lamed. Lol

I think laming should be allowed, but if it’s removed in an effort to evolve the game (as “rule changes happen in every sport,” the video says), then let’s remove sheep cartography :registered: while we’re at it
