So I was working on a mod for unit description and noticed that there are lines for unit description for the Counter Jeager and Dragoon that are different then the ones in game
After checking the techs themselves, turns out that they just send existing Normal dragoons and Counter skirms and then change the unit names.
Interestingly, there are separate Counter dragoons and Counter Jeager in the protoy and in the scenario editor that has these unit descriptions but interestingly they seem to be incomplete since they dont have the ability to mount and dismount.
My guess is that the ability to mount and dismount was considered not viable and was not pursued or it might come in a future update.
In this case, it’s very, very obviously extremely broken. They perfectly cover each other’s weaknesses.
Dragoons are countered by light infantry and heavy infantry (which they can run from) and they counter heavy cavalry and artillery (and this particular form also countered light cavalry)
Counter-Skirms are countered by heavy cavalry and artillery and counter light infantry and soft counter heavy infantry.
So there’s nothing you can make that isn’t hard countered by one form or the other other than heavy infantry which will still get countered with some micro.

It just frustrates me how ridiculously bad the units are. Not only are they complete fiction with horrible names, but they considered making them an uncounterable unit.
It would be cool to see them reworked into a single dismounting unit with an actual real name like Leib Guard. They’d just have to give them a proper pairing like heavy cav / counter-skirm or light cav / heavy infantry.
Given how restricted they are I dont think thats where the issue would lie
They cant be trained (except in a revolt) and the only way to get them outside of the initial batch is to rely on unit shipments, the only one of which is infinite and only 7 Dragoons which might then can maybe turn into 7 Jaegers
Due to the Jaegers only soft countering heavy infantry, this just instantly dies to a musk cannon comp.
I to found the names Counter Jeager and Counter Dragoon quite silly, especially since the names of the techs themselves actually refer to real things. Russian late-game rework using the "Reformist Tsar"
This was my idea for them but I’m open to other changes.
The probable reason for this now that i see these description is that they were meant to refer to each other in their mount/dismounted states but you can do whatever name you want tbh.
alot of name mods are multiplayer compatible I find now that I am trying to do this
