Suggestion: Real World Maps ideas for the next DLC

Everytime there is a new DLC, new maps are added to the game. My favorite to play with friends are Real World maps because we can make them more thematic.

I would like to come with a few extra suggestions for real world maps:

  1. Tenochtitlan, something in the style of this:

This campaign map was just beautiful. I don’t mean a copy-paste version of this map, but something in the style of this.

  2. Roman Empire:

  3. Ludocris Earth Map: (settled)

  4. Far East

I second this.

Also more suggestion:

Middle East - a bit larger than existing MidEast map.

Sundarban - An actual map from a pre-DE tournament named “Mangrove Shallows Cup (2018)” hosted by MemBtv.

Canada, Alaska, New Zealand, Hawaii, Tibetan Plateau, Great Lakes. Those could be interesting too.

Also, not “Real” world maps, but some fantasy maps could be really cool too. Middle Earth, Numenor, Westeros, Roshar, Tamriel, Discworld, Faerun. Unfortunately MS doesn’t own any of those, so they’d have to be licensed and it’s probably not worth it.

I actually dislike “real world” maps in AoE2 very much because they’re way out of proportion, which feels too much like Risk. Imo the more biome approach of Aoe3 is an improvement: wildlife, flora and reliefs are adjusted, along with defining season, but the geography is much narrower. As in aoeii’s arabia map.

It would be great to choose the biome in custom/random map menu.

Ohh i’m a big lover of this, i’ve always made scenarios/maps like this in Age of Mythology. But in AoE2 they’re also really fun.

I would love to see a map of northern mexico and california and the south of the rocky mountains. Like the old full mexican empire and then play that with aztecs expanding north xD

I would love to see a map of the Holy Roman Empire like that first map of the HRE campaign. But than geographical with more pronounced mountains and elevations.

I really miss a map of the Sahel and the jungles of west africa. More zoomed in than the current West Africa. So you can make it way more detailed.

Take this opportunity to promote.
Maps of Europe, Eastern Europe, North Africa, South Africa, the Middle East, East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Oceania, Bering, America, Canada, Caribbean, Amazon, Southern Cone, Japan, Taiwan and other regions are designed in Luducrious sizes.
Let’s start a magnificent battle with various regions in the real world as scenes!
The map itself has some imperfections and can be modified by yourself, but please do not upload it to the public privately…after all, making a map actually takes a lot of effort and time, thank you.

Maps fit dlc topic, I mean tarim basin, mongolia, manchuria.

Definitely agree. There have been a number of posts about this over the years. Here’s a recent thread:

#MeToo I love the winter maps and would love to be able to play all maps on winter.

I eleventh this.

I always loved playing the historical maps in CIV6. But when it comes to AOE2 I only played a few because it doesn’t have the big ones like: World, Europe, Asia, Eurasia, etc.

Some other cool Real World Maps concepts:

  1. Black Sea: (with Armenians, Georgians, Byzantines, Turks, Bulgarians, Vlachs, Slavs this is great for roleplay)
  2. Mexico (just perfect for playing American civs)
  3. Europe

They beat you to it Black Sea is already in the game.

They need all these maps on Ludicris size

Haha true, the one in game is too much water too little land around it, would have been great if it were a little bit more zoomed out, but it’s still great to be able to play a real world location.

I would agree. It’s bit too water heavy and the land on it is pretty plain.

One of my issues with some of the current real world maps is that they are quite featureless. I wish they had a bit more flair and some landmarks represented in some way.

AoE2 has a lot more decorative objects nowadays that could be used.
Would be nice if they added even more of them of course.

France Remake : add mountains (mainly the Alps and Pyrénées, also the smaller Massif Central, Vosges and Jura) to actually put some bottlenecks, as well as the main rivers, with shallows following the main historical roads (more or less inherited from roman roads).

Holy Roman Empire : self-explainatory, on both sides of the Alps. Also with mountains rivers etc.

Classical World : Europe, North Africa, Asia up to Central Asia.

Great Steppe : Hungary to Manchuria, walled by some mountains in the south

Crusades : wider Eastern Mediterranean from southern Italy to western Persia, including Egypt and Anatolia.

Great Wall : China extended northward, cut in half by I don’t remember which long monument. One team starts north as the nomads, one team south as settled China.

Other ones :

Poland : the wide open plains of Poland and Western Ukraine stand in the middle of the map, surrounded by forests and mountains all around (Germany, the Carpathians, the Baltics…). Making it a very dangerous central position. Gdansk on the mouth of the Vistula is extremely strategic to raid deep inland from the Baltic or to prevent it.

Hungary : pretty similar in design, centered on the very open hungarian plains (only cut by major rivers like the Danube) with more defensible areas all around : Austria Carpathians Transylvania Balkans…

Sicily : the island is in the middle of the map, a strategic location for other players in Southern Italy, Greece and North Africa to control the mediterranean trade

Carpathians would be cool to, both 4v4 teams split by a big mountain range.
