Currently Greeks don’t have access to reliable healing and on top of that they only have a very limited number of heroes. This makes the only way to “refresh” your heroes: Delete and retrain them as you can’t just pump out more in addition to your hurt ones like the other factions.
Now giving them regeneration could be a viable solution but there are a couple of points to consider before doing that, as someone in favour of this I am going to do my best to make my case:
For:
-Make “delete-refresh” obsolete as stated above.
-Your first two heroes are melee units and will inevitably take damage, all other factions have solution to rejuvinate them without using a god power (Egypt: Healing with other priests or make more, Norse: Valkyries, being Odin or make more, Atlanteans: Caladrias or you can always make more) and Poseidon dosn’t even have that option.
-Currently the Greeks aren’t doing too hot on the ladder and this could be an adequate minor buff for them.
Against:
-“You will have access to oppressive raiders”
I don’t disagree with this, but I have a solution instead: Reduced modifier against villager (Possibly changing with Age, maybe x0.25/x0.5/x0.75/x1?)
-“Just add back Hippocrates instead”
No, that would impact other part of the balance as playing the Greeks: No oppertunity cost of choosing another God than Apollo in age 3 and access to continious early army heal outside current perimeters.
Sidenote: I have seen the idea floating around of giving access to him as part of Artemis worship and that sounded better (though I would prefer that Beast Slayer gives “Heal” ability to age 3 heroes instead), but that wouldn’t be until age 4 and the change I am asking for is specifically focused around Age 2 play.
-“You are possibly giving a snowballing mechanic that didn’t exist and is part of Greeks identity.”
Also a point worth mentioning, but I think that the benifit of this hypothetical improvement is a net gain over its downsides.
As most of greek Heroes are melee units and have an announcing glow they are very prone to focus fire, proper micro is an interesting part of this game and this gives an option of skill expression when playing against the Greek.
When using a myth heavy army composition you focus fire the heroes with your human soldiers and when using an army without myths you avoid shooting into these damage sponges as their damage isn’t remarkable against human soldiers (discounting Mythic Age Heroes of course).
I would very much like to hear your opinions, for and against about a hypothetical mechanic like this, or if you have other solutions.
