This idea changes a fundamental mechanic of the game that generally speaking, few want changed. If the author doesn’t like this aspect of the game that requires planning and good decision and promotes strong map control and tactical options, play another game. AOM settlement system is a central system of the game that does not need any modifications or changing. Giving players lifelines who have essentially lost does nothing for the game save prolong their demise. If the player is good enough they can recover and take back a settlement, if not, game over as it should be
Let me tell you again, I’m not sure if you’ve read my proposal and analyzed it. But in truth, it would be a very small change that would affect very few matches. The settlement system would remain almost the same.
Essentially, a single temporary CT would not change the game, map control, etc…
Why propose it at all if it’s allegedly that’s minor and supposedly that minimal on gameplay? Why not just keep it the same as is? At the end of the day the temp TC solution just gives an unnecessary lifeline to someone who’s probably defeated anyway. And if it’s a player who can take over a settlement again after having 0, then they didn’t need a temp TC in the first place.
I would prefer it to be more like an optional settlement system (providing advantages when you maintain settlements but not limiting the player) or an eternal TC without settlements, for example something like THIS
But precisely for respecting settlement system enthusiasts like you, my proposal was so minimalistic. To avoid disturbing your collective too much, and to provide a slight opportunity for those who prefer more freedom, variety of gameplay, etc
(EDIT 1):
Because there are tons of situations, where you might not be lost. The typical match in which the opponent already controls the entire map obviously no. But there are situations in which even temporarily you would need a subsistence CTThis is the finality of the proposal
You must be new to forums dedicated to the franchise. People have been trying to mod settlements out of the game for years lmao.
And no, it wouldn’t be a bad design. If anything, it’d be finishing and polishing the game as it was originally intended, instead of keeping the settlement system when it was just a placeholder before development time ran out.
We’d just be taking the aoe3 ways if devs implement a building limit.
I would not be so sure about this. If AoM Retold is successful enough, which it sounds like it is for now, then you can bet that they will make this happen. But for this to happen, the sales must be great, the game must receive good feedback, and there must be developers who care about the game post-launch and do not just want a quick profit before abandoning it.
I wouldn’t want to debate this here, maybe in a new thread or via DM if you prefer. But I can offer you a summary.
If AoMr is successful, it will have DLCs and a lot of dedication, but NEVER AoM2.
If they were going to release AoM2, they would have released AoM Definitive Edition (not Retold), it would have far fewer implementations, and in a few years, they would release AoM2
Mate, you can’t say never for certainty. You don’t know. They might do an AOM2. Unless you’re a developer or have insider knowledge you don’t know for sure, so don’t peddle false info
I don’t want to derail this topic, so if you want, we can start a new one and talk about it. But I assure you with a very high percentage that there won’t be an AoM2.
AoM Retold is already a modern game made from scratch. Just imagine what would happen if an AoM2 were released. To begin with, it would be very difficult for it to measure up (in terms of content), and even if it managed to do so over the years, the AoMr community would not fully migrate to it since they already have a modern game. It would be a huge failure
