Suggestions for The Return of Rome DLC

I think if we give every civilisations a civilisation specific wonder then it would be fair if everyone would get a new one.
The 5 old wonders will turn into scenario editor buildings.

The Babylonian wonder is a Sumerian Ziggurat, which is kinda ironic considering they are using the Egyptian architecture set.

A few thoughts.
The Macedonian wonder is located in modern day Egypt but it was build by Macedonian rulers, also it’s one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world so I wanted to include it.

The Yamato wonders are a little to modern technically but so it all of the civilisation. On top of they they still exist today (a 2/3 scale reconstruction on case of the second one).
Chinese and Korean wonders are from later dynasties but still ancient unlike the current wonder that is at last 1000 years too modern.

The Phoenician might be a little controversial but it’s a well known building.

The Zigguart or Ur is so popular that it’s hard to take something else for the Sumerians.

Yes, you are right, the Babylonian wonder is Etemenanki, I E a Ziggurat for Marduk. So it is correct for Babylonians. Sumerians need a similar wonder, but without the blue paint on top and the golden globes:
Ur Ziggurat (Sumerian):

Seems like the original AOE 1 Babylonian wonder is the Ur Ziggurat, so that has already been fixed. Maybe the original Babylonian wonder should be graphically modernised and included as the Sumerian Wonder.

Etemenanki Ziggurat (Babylonian current wonder IE Marduk Ziggurat OR the Tower of Babel):

I have another suggestions- to add the Seven wonders of the world as scenario editor buildings ( a few of them are already wonders for some civilizations, add the rest like in AoE 2 there is the Tower of London, Pyramids etc.), some Greek (Acropolis, Temple of Zeus, Knossos palace etc.) and Roman monuments, as well notable monuments of ancient Mesopotamia, Persia and the middle East.

Why would you ever change Egyptian Wonder if its already real wonder?

Egypt has so many nice buildings that I thought it would be nice to have at last 2 of them by making the old one a Scenario Editor object.

The Pyramid is too iconic, maybe add Sphinx, Bent Pyramid, Saqqara Pyramid and other variants as SE objects,

Another reason why I want to make the Pyramids a Sencario Editor object is that they could be made larger. The wonder of all civilisations should be the same size but I think it would be nice if the Pyramids would be larger.
In AoM the Egyptians have both the Pyramid and the Sphinx as a wonder.
The 3rd wonder in AoM is a temple that looks a lot like the normal Egyptian temple from AoE1.

Similar reason with the Colosseum, it should not have a square footprint but a square one. Longer on one side like in real life. The Colosseum is not a circle.

Well I can say atleast we are getting gates, saw some pictures where gates were present.

Normal, but it is appreciated…

If they add unique units i would love to see an Archimedes steam cannon for the Romans

Nah, that would be eyecandy scenario editor unit. Too much fantasy

Want to play it in a stand-alone mode

Go visit the Siege of Syracuse. Its actually used

There aren’t clear evidences, nor uses after. Anyway, is not a common unit that the Romans used, and also Archimedes was Greek. Syracusa would fit better as Greeks than Romans.

UU usualy are iconic units that the civ fielded

I would really like to see “unique units” added to the game, as seen in AoE2.

I honestly wish the “unique units” were 2 or 3 per each civilization and it should replace its standard counterpart. So each cizilication could have a more unique and interesting appearance.

But unfortunately… This “DLC” will be practically the same as the AoE1:DE version, it won’t have anything that gives the feeling of a Remake… it will just look like a Remaster with improvements… however “these improvements” were requested a lot time ago and the developers ignored the community at the time.

I think this “DLC” will only be to attract the large number of Vietnamese players and the base Aoe2:DE community will not “lock” for a long time in this DLC. Many players wanted to see a lot of new features… but from what I’ve seen on the forums, it’s actually the same as the previous one, but with “improvements” that should have already been made in the “Definitive Edition version” and were ignored there. There’s nothing really exciting… it’s all things that should have come and were requested by the community and ignored by the developer because it didn’t sell as expected and the player base that stayed playing is very small… but only now the developers “listened” to what was asked at the time and took an interest in the Vietnamese community with a wider eye.

But in my view it’s still little to make you stop being an AoE2 player to fully migrate to the new DLC… it’s too little. I’ll definitely buy and play, but I doubt I’ll be excited after a few months.

Yes, but better to have this DLC than nothing.

Well, good thing I don’t want to stop playing AoE2, then.

We don’t know what this DLC will offer.
There are only rumours and leaks.
And those leaks are from a beta test that was more then 5 months ago. There is a lot of things you can do in 5 months.

It’s to early to say that this DLC will “offer nothing” to AoE2 players. We don’t even know if that DLC is targeted at AoE2 players at all but they never tried to make it clear who this DLC is for.
Whatever the DLC will end up being I bet you some people will be unhappy about it because it’s not what they imagined it being for the last 5 months.

I have noticed a bug:

The “get back to work” on town center is no longer working for me. I used to use it to expedite my villagers without having to walking around the TC. Like, I click a vill getting sheep to make a farm behind my TC, right after I garrison him inside tc and press the get back to work hotkey. He would spawn behind the TC and get straight to the farm withou walking. Same with taking boars, etc.

Now when I do it they just respawn idling under TC, not doing the task they were assigned to.

Wrong topic?

I think Return of Rome should have some new units and upgrades.

Axemen line should get new upgrades, I would add for example Heavy Axeman and Falxman.

I think it would be best if axemen upgrades come from iron age unless people find that Short Swordsman should receive buff then it could come from bronze age with different stats.

Heavy Axeman:
75 HP, 9 attack, no armor and moves 5% faster than swordsmen line.

Falxman: (If barbarian civs would come to AoE1 I would reserve this unit for them, anyway only very few civs should have access to them)
85 HP, 12 attack, no armor, +5 vs hoplite line and moves 5% faster than swordsmen line.

Scout should also receive upgrade or upgrades. If they don’t want to upgrade them then they should receive +2 attack from bronze age like in aoe2 scout cavalry gets +2 in feudal age.

Bronze Age: Light Cavalry
80-85HP, 6 attack, no armor and +5% faster than other cavalry. Should also have res vs priest like chariots since some civs don’t get chariots.

Iron Age variant if needed: Lancer/Elite Light Cavalry etc…

100 HP, 8 attack, 1 pierce armor and +5% faster than other cavalry + conversion res.

Slingers need upgrades since less range than other range units makes it bad counter unit vs other range troops.

Bronze Age: Improved/Heavy Slinger

30 HP, 5-6 range, damage 3, pierce armor 2, is effected by melee armor upgrades and damage bonuses are same.

Iron Age: Elite Slinger

35-40 HP, 6-7 range, damage 4, pierce armor 3, is effected by melee armor upgrades and damage bonuses are same.

Camel Riders really need iron age upgrade, because they become pretty weak vs iron age cavalry units.

Iron Age: Heavy Camel Rider

140 HP, 8 attack, 1-2 armor, attack bonuses either same or +2 vs cav and +1 vs chariot/elephant compare to regular camel rider.

Heavy Cavalry should receive some health buff from 150 to 165.

I think that composite bowmen should receive Iron Age upgrade. Could be called Heavy/Elite Composite Bowman.

Heavy/Elite Composite Bowman:

50 HP, range 7-8 (should have higher range than mounted archers), damage 6, no armor.

Not sure but maybe Chariot Archers should have an Iron Age upgrade, could be called Heavy/Royal Chariot Archers.

85 HP, 7 range, 5 attack, no armor and has res vs priests like other chariots.

I think that AoE1 towers need damage buff here are my ideas:

Watch Tower from 3 to 4, Sentry Tower from 4 to 5, Guard Tower from 6 to 8 and Ballista Tower from 20 to 25. Or there should be similar tech like AoE2 arrow slits which improve tower damage.

Also I think rams should be introduced to Return of Rome. They should be available from bronze age. They called be called Battering/Light Ram, Armored Ram and Siege Ram. Since it would be totally new unit its hard to me give it even initial balance.

Bronze Age: Battering/Light Ram

150 HP, pierce armor 20 ( Ballista Tower should be capable to destory them so they should have 5 pierce armor less than basic ballista tower damage), damage should be better vs buildings compare to Stone Thrower.

Iron Age: Armored Ram

185-200 HP, pierce armor 35 (it would mean that ballista can deal 5 damage per shot), damage vs buildings should be better than Catapult.

Siege Ram:

250-300HP, pierce armor 40 (it would mean that helepolis can deal 5 damage per shot), damage vs buildings should be better than Heavy Catapult.

Anyway here are some unit ideas, which should or could be in the coming Return of Rome.

More upgrades to different units would make easier to make civs more different to each other.
