A Cat Named Mittens, the Age of Mythology theme: On the one hand, I don’t know how much it costs to make a song, but I think it would be a nice touch if each civilization had its own version of that song. There are Aztec, Japanese, and Chinese versions because they’re DLC, but Norse, Egyptian, and Greek versions would be great, since the game already has The Titans’ version, which I’ll count as the Atlantean version.
While I have no problem with the arrangements in the Retold soundtrack, I do miss the original versions, at least the Greek, Egyptian, Norse, and Atlantean themes. These last two are where the difference is most noticeable. Also, the previous version of If You Can Use a Doorknob (victory theme) has differences between the original and Retold versions, and of course, I’d like the original version of A Cat Named Mittens to be in the game.
I’m not saying they should be replaced with the old versions, since the current ones are excellent, but the previous ones are also great. It would be fantastic if they could implement them in the game, so that the civilization themes would be interspersed or randomly generated at the start of a game with their corresponding civilization. And for “A Cat Named Mittens,” whether it’s the current version, the old one, or what I’m suggesting—a version for each civilization—the existing civilization themes already play randomly.
It also occurred to me that the menu should play not only the main theme and the in-game music when it ends, but also the pantheon themes.
Now for what I might call complaints.
First, one that can’t really be changed, but the Aztec, Japanese, and Chinese themes are far too long, especially compared to the originals. They could have saved at least a minute because many parts are unnecessarily repeated, but they’re already done.
Bug report: If you tab while the game is running in the background for a long time, or if you tab repeatedly, the music mutes. It only restarts when you go to the battle music section, which plays when attacking a fortress, urban center, or using a power that triggers it.
By the way, this happened with the Chinese update; I remember this bug not occurring before.
Finally, I’m still waiting for the entire soundtrack to be available for purchase on Steam. I could understand the DLC tracks, but songs from the base game are missing.
It would be great if they also included the original game’s soundtrack, even if it were a separate pack; I would buy it.
