ISSUE EXPERIENCED
When scout or other military targets an adoptable or heardable friendly food animal (sheep, turkey, llama, deer, etc.) that is still neutral, the sword icon appears. But when you try to attack/kill said animal by right-mousing with the sword icon showing, your unit instead adopts the animal when you get close to it.
Windows screenshot isn’t capturing the icon so I’ve made a poor drawing of it:
EXPECTED RESULT
It should kill the animal
- In mid- or late-game this could come in handy because it gets tiresome to hear the cowbell sheep sound every time your trade carts go by a sheep, and then your ally’s carts do, and then yours do, and then your ally’s, etc. for 10, 20, or 30 minutes… until one of you takes time to put a villager on it. At this point in the game, though, I just want the sheep gone because we have a bunch of farms and are busy with battles. Would be much easier to send a cavalry to kill it so you can one-click do that (and not have to worry about an idle villager after harvesting the sheep if a villy is used)
- And in earlier AoE2s, weren’t you able to kill sheep and deer, or am I mistaken? If so, why not now?
If killing it with the sword icon is absolutely not desired, then the icon should not change to a sword at all… it should stay an arrow shape and not mislead us.
As a compromise, maybe after adopting the animal is when it should switch to sword, whereby it is then killable by right-mousing it?
No matter what, the sword icon is currently incorrect and misleading
EDIT: Saw a TTL4 Platinum vid showing you can only kill sheep and such if it has been claimed by the enemy and is their color. If the icon could only show in proper context that would be nice. But also I still think we should be able to kill sheep+ whenever we want
