I’m not normally into watching competitive AoE2 games, but it has grown on me a little the past year, mainly at the castle in Spain last year (Red Bull Wololo tournament).

As a self-proclaimed fairly good casual player myself (vs. AI) - haha 
- it’s neat to hear commentary and learn a thing or two that I didn’t know or think about before. I’ve never been into knowing or learning all the META, but in a way, the game kind of forces you to do so, with some defensive nerfs that have taken place over the years. I still don’t want to learn much of the meta (don’t have time or energy for it, and don’t want the game feeling completely mathematical), but aside from the matches being interesting to watch, it’s nice if I can pick up a simple trick or two while watching
