Team game balance is an absolute joke right now

The buffs to cavalry and cavalry focused civs (French, Mongol) have made team games an absolute joke for any players that don’t go cavalry. There is literally NO point going anything other than cavalry or mounted archers. Every game it’s just the same crap, the team with the most cavalry civs wins. You just go base to base and troll. It’s so pathetically easy and monotonous and takes zero skill or strategy.

Not to mention pre-feudal horseman rush from Mongol is just stupid and ridiculous. Why is 1 civ able to attack your base and villagers with zero repercussion before you can even build any offensive units? What kind of nonsense is this?

Was it any different before?

It was like that before last update too.It only buffed cavalry at imperial age.Problem with team games is rush civs wins most of the time because you can gang up on one player and can kill him or give enough damage it cant build eco back.Lets say you got english and french as enemy.French made knights and you made spears to defend then english come next to him with longbows you are finishe.Ofcourse your team mate needs to play good there too.

Most important bug in team games are matching. It matches me with rankless people which had no gameplay.I learned to quit when i see one because one time i didnt quit and kid made mining camp near the berries then we lost of course.Im 1 match away from diamond in team ranked and i fear something like will happen again. If you are solo entering team games your luck is important too.

For mongol horse rush just ignore it and delete your mining camp its easy to deal.

Can’t really comment on Mongol dark age horsemen rush, not convinced its OP. Or even that good.

With that said - and I know its often been a meme - fully upgraded spears do not counter fully upgraded French/Rus Knights, Cataphracts, Imperial Guard, Elephants etc especially well - and seem significant worse at this than they were before the changes. You can argue the resource differential - but in practice 80~ Knights charge 80+ spears and lose maybe a third of their number but kill all the spears. Now they can just mow down villagers with impunity. Unless you are sitting on 20+ barracks, you’ll now never get enough spears to do anything to the Knight blob that will just murder them as they spawn/rally across to the fight. Its better to make your own knights as while this may not be a counter, they can at least trade blows and you can run away.

Resource differentials matter less in 3v3/4v4/FFA where you can much more safely mass up.

Dark Age horsemen rush isn’t even a strong strategy, I’d argue it’s not even viable.

Horsemen are very food heavy. You delay your feudal age by a huge amount even making 1.

It coats 600 resources to go to Feudal Age. Getting out a single horseman costs 270, plus 30 seconds of villager build time.

Plus you do have the counter available in dark age.

For knights you need to make crossbows and meatshield in front of them.

Bad luck to Malians I guess.

This is true - but it has the same problem. If your quasi-Tercio of Meatshield+Crossbows goes down, its very hard to put it back together as Knights pour through your production/vils.

Malians actually have poison arrow. You can use them in place of crossbows.

Knights just run around your xbows and meatshield and massacre your econ.

I agree horseman rush in and by itself is not a good strat for the Mongol; however it’s incredibly effective for a team game when your allies just sit back and boom while horsemen wreak havoc.

You need to do counter raiding of course

Thats just an overall drawback of teamgames - one mistake on anyones part and you’re just doomed, cuz FOUR similarly powefull civs then focus their strongest units on one.

Are multiple Mongol players rushing you together?

Otherwise you’re just in a temporary 1v1 where your opponent has chosen a suboptimal strategy.
