If you’re seeing this every match it should be fairly easy to grab. Unfortunately I don’t play enough to really know the difference between what was vs what is and creating a custom game with a map seed requires one to specifically select a map size, which skirts this issue.
No creating a custom game creates a control for the comparison in which you can then compare the quick mode map to the size selected custom game map. Anyway I will grab some logs later today and post them on there because I am getting tired of playing 4v4 sized maps in 3v3. It is unmistakable. I play a TON of team games and am top 5 ELO in 2v2 and 3v3, and the maps 100% got way bigger after the last big patch. The size is no longer proportional to 1v1 in team games like it was. We are back to 1 hour long boom fests because infantry takes 5 minutes just to cross the damn map. I can instantly tell when I play a custom game vs friends vs quick mode.
I thought I’ve come across this bug a number of times over the last months, but looking through my recent replays (~25 games) I only found one game with a map the wrong size. It was a 4v4 quickmatch on boulder bay that was on a giant map instead of large. To get a nice comparison I wanted to find other 4v4 quickmatch games on boulder bay, so I looked through people in my recently played list and found two games played on large maps and one played on giant, which I thought should be enough proof. All four replays are available to watch if you search the players’ names (I added the dates).
Here’s a screenshot with the comparisons. You can tell the size of the map by looking at the size of the camera trapezoid (which I moved to the top of the minimap), it has a distinct size for each map size (micro, small, medium, large, giant). (Note: I use the panoramic camera, classic will have a slightly different trapezoid.) But you can also look at the size of the starting line-of-sight circles, which are definitely smaller on the giant maps.
Again, I thought I’ve seen this on other maps, and in 3v3 too, but doing the camera trapezoid test on my recent replays it was only the 4v4 boulder bay game that was wrong, so that’s what I focused on.
Yesterday I used the map seeds from the four games to generate the maps (using the correct settings), trying with both large and giant sizes. And indeed, the two games I said were on large maps matched the large maps and not the giant maps, and the two games I said were on giant maps matched the giant maps and not the large maps.
I have 12 screenshots with the comparisons, but can only attach 5 at a time. Let me know if I need to upload them, or if my word (and the previous image comparing the camera trapezoids and starting line-of-sight circles) is enough.
Several people me included have noticed that map sizes in Team games (quick search) appear to have been reverted back to what they used be a couple of months back. Before you made the change to smaller maps - which was a highly appreciated change.
Please change back to the smaller map sizes. If other change causes the maps to be bigger - make them even smaller again.
