Yes, I know the history that FE tried twice to contact Disney to do a SWGB DE and they didnt get an answer both times.
Disney used to have an exclusive deal with EA, but ended on 2023.
Then somebody explain why it couldnt be done. Microsoft/FE could do the investment and then Disney get their cut? Or is Disney who would finance the DE? I doubt that SWGB is more niche than Dark Forces, who got a remaster.
SWGB would fit perfectly a Chronicles DLC, and Expanding Fronts mod team has shown that there is a ton of content that can be added.
Yes, that would be great, it’s a shame that this year is the 25th anniversary of SWGB and we can’t have a DE for companies shenanigans (as a standalone game I mean, not a mode within the AoE 2 client like Chronicles)…
If enough of us interested folks got together, we could make a pretty good approximation of it in the form of a mod. There are only a few mechanics from SWGB that DE cannot emulate, but I bet if that’s all that was needed to get it working the devs might throw us a bone.
I wouldn’t care for this. I think there are a ton of other directions Chronicles, or the AoE2DE engine, or the franchise, or the devs could take without rehashing an existing IP, especially one that is constantly getting shows, games, spinoffs, movies, remasters, re-releases, and everything else. There’s a little burnout setting in, in a way. I love SW, but maybe it’s okay to allow some variety
I prefer some originality, and with nice graphics/animations, very well thought out gameplay, user interface, mechanics, environments, and the like. Not saying a SWBG DE wouldn’t, but it sure wouldn’t be as original as what I’m looking for, if we’re going the non-medieval route.
Which mechanics are missing in AoE2DE, besides proper interaction with flying units? Though I could imagine that with some tinkering, it would be possible in AoE2DE that only certain units can attack flying units.
For those who’d like to create science-fiction-themed scenarios with the existing assets, they could add cheat units from RoR, such as Nuke Trooper and Zug 209, to the base game, as well as the black Photonman (lightsaber) event skin. Maybe even make the unfinished AoE1 Space Ship a functional cheat unit, but not sure whether they would take the effort for just a cheat unit.
Shields, power requirements, stealth, non-hardcoded garrisoned object resource generation, and of course limited targeting (for flying units). There are partial workarounds for some of these, but they’re only partial, and they’re a bit hacky. Others are just completely impossible, AFAIK.
