Texture Extractor No Longer Works

The Texture Extractor tool no longer works as intended, instead of extracting the texture, and “printing” the dialog/text, it simply does nothing, and the pop-up window is blank. Interesting enough, the texture compiler (tga to ddt) works fine.

Yeah I know, it’s not an official texture used in the conversion, but the issue is universal of the texture’s origin

Reproduction Steps:

  1. Open the texture extractor tool (You can use http://aom.heavengames.com/downloads/showfile.php?fileid=10791 as a dedicated utility program to use the routines without fiddling with the Command Prompt)
  2. Select any texture from Age of Mythology/Textures, and a folder to extract the file to.

Workaround fix: go to AoMEE steam options and select betas tab. Then select older patch. Then copy tools folder content to somewhere. Then revert AoMEE to 2.7. You can use those files from old patch to use texture extractor.

This is workaround, but still the best I would come up with.

On Windows 10 I get the following Error when running TextureExtractor.exe from the commandline: “The code execution cannot proceed because zlibwapi.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.”

I found another workaround that may be better the one posted by TallishSpy8594 since it does not require any rolling back of files or recopying to another location:
Simply copy the file zlibwapi.dll from the root of the Age Of Mythology into the Age of Mythology/tools folder and the TextureCompiler.exe will work properly again.
