The Beetroot mod (new audio, audio rework)

This message followed up on my question about whether it’s possible to add sound tracks to units when they move. Since this is already set up for cavalry units in this stance, I think it should be possible to extend this to all units and see how it sounds when the units are in action. This is just a suggestion

A drummer plays drum sounds while moving and is also able to receive orders at the same time. In theory, this is possible, but there are 3 problems with this.

First, what triggers the sound playback if not the file associated with the unit itself (which does not contain the drum track)? It’s likely that the animation triggers sound.

Second, even if the cavalry plays the movement sound, it will be either a single-unit instance or a group instance, regardless of the number of cav. units.

Third, the sounds will conflict with each other. I have a similar problem when I want to assign an alternative sound to factories. In that case, one sound automatically replaces the other or completely mutes it if a different sound is playing.

The problem will resolve itself when I understand how to add audio to units whose animations play movement sounds. After all, the Leonardo Tank is move with movement sounds, but I’d need to check what happens when there are more than 2, 4, etc.

You’ve brought up a very interesting topic, and I’d be interested in looking into it, if only to understand how to implement audio in animations. However, it’s not a priority right now. Thanks for your observation.

Me and my mod after the DLC release.

But we’re still talking about a situation in which more than 2,000 audio files are used. Thanks to keeping my files organized, I found out that at least 200 units have new voicelines. These are often unique. And the code itself already has 5,000 lines—I don’t know if I’m bragging or complaining, but version 5.1 will finally be released soon™, just without support for the DLC since I don’t plan on buying it anytime soon. I hope they fix those 2137 different bugs soon, and holy cow, the amount of audio voicelines from AoE2. :skull: I have a lots of ideas for this issue, but c’mon, I’m only a smol modder. :eyes:

All that’s left is to add a few new soundset for a American units, and then I should be able to publish it as is.

I would like to sincerely thank @Gamertron24717, without whose help I would not been able to continue my work, and also for correcting my Spanish voicelines :raccoon:
