I’m totally disappointed with the Japanese myth units. The 3D modelers did a poor job and created horrible myth units that don’t match the great work the illustrators did.
The current 3D models for the Japanese mythical creatures don’t represent Japanese art. The myth units are awful.
for example:
Tengu:
The concept art of the Tengu was perfect, it correctly represented Japanese art, a mythical unit with a dark or demonic appearance with a humanoid avian-style body.
The 3D model of the Tengu is horrible, it looks like a malnourished old man with a giant nose and wings. That’s not representative of the concept art.
Oni:
The illustrators did a perfect job of accurately depicting the Japanese Oni. The Japanese Oni has prominent horns and fangs, and the shape of the body and accessories were perfect.
The 3D model of the Japanese Oni is horrible, it looks like a giant with horns that is not very striking, it does not fit with Japanese conceptual art.
Shinigami:
I didn’t like the illustration of the Shinigami but he tried to create a mythical Japanese unit in the style of the Japanese Grim Reaper.
The 3D model of the Shinigami is horrible, the worst of all, it looks like an old man with horns who just woke up with a hangover, it does not represent Japanese art at all.
Kamaitachi:
I didn’t like the Kamaitachi illustration. Who would think that an animal like a weasel would have metal sickles sticking out of its body? That makes no sense at all. They could have created sharp horns or sharp, sickle-shaped bones, but no.
The 3D model is not at all striking and does not represent Japanese art.
