The meaning of Chosun

Hi, I’m Korean. Chosun means “Beautiful Morning” in English. Korean people call ancient Chosun as “Gochosun”, “Go” means ‘ancient’, ‘old’. That is because there is another Chosun which is “the Kingdom of Chosun”(1397 ~ 1910). That’s why Korean people needed to distinguish ‘old Chosun’ and ‘later Choson’. Korean people call ‘later Chosun’ as just “Chosun”, and ‘old Chosun’ as “Gochosun”.

Chosun in AOE1 is “Gochosun”.

Actually, that’s “J” sound not ‘CH’ sound. so “Josun” is more correct.

Also, today South Korean people call their nation as “대한민국”. “대한민국” means “the Republic of Deahan”. Deahan means “Grand Han”.

After ‘ancient Chosun’ was collapsed, three tribe nation started rule the Korean middle and south peninsula. They were “Mahan”, “Jinhan”, “Byeonhan”. So Korea was called as “Three Hans” in ancient period.

In 1879, King Gojong ,the 26th King of the Kingdom of Joseon, change the name of nation to “the Empire of Deahan”. Han is came from ancient Han. and Dea means “Grand”

South Korean government decided keep using “Deahan” so we are calling our nation as “the Republic of Deahan”.

But North Korean government denied the “Deahan”. they are not using “Deahan” anymore. So they call thier nation as “the democratic people’s republic of Josun”.

I don’t care which it’s written as ‘Chosun’ in the game. I just wanted to let people know.

Is this the same word as ChosOn with an O?

True, Choson would be AoE 1 (2333-108 BCE) and Koreans/Joseon would be AoE 2 (668-1592) (and AoE 3) (1592-1910)…
