what I dont udnerstand is why dont they allow it in ranked. the aoe2 side of roman addition would have entirely different stats than aoe1 mode afaik. they can easily change it to make it balanced and have it in ranked. surely it’ll come eventually and trying to rid of the idea of pay2win?
but yaeh the aoe1de players kinda got screwed over, having to pay for a 2nd time. especially the target players aren’t even aoe1de players but vietnamese players. MS should be extremely careful with this, and hope nothing of the sc to sc2 happens again where it sort of killed off the game momentum.
though i doubt many would move onto ROR when they can already have it for free.
its a very weird situation, but again, best decision here would be to never even attempt this as romans as a civ make 0 sense in aoe2 period, unlike byzantines, yet here we are

the reason aoe1 got so massive in vietnam to begin with was pirated copies being preinstalled on every computer, i highly doubt those guys will just pay 35$ worth in their currency for this

I still hope they would turn around, but fat chance.
a small thought for all, sometimes having active developer support can be much worse than not having it
because with no support, developer can’t derail the game with wrong calls, active support is a double edged sword at all times, as is not having it

yep and since its free they have no reason to move onto 2nd game. MS would have to sell aoe2 + ror dirt cheap in vietnam. steam probably has it cheap for them anyway in some parts of the world so its probably not going to be $35. I’ve got a vietnamese player that I know I can ask them to see how much they sell it for on steam

its def less than 35 for them, but its still more than 0 that initial aoe1 rise of rome pack was costing them
lmao buying ROR alone is more expensive for me than ROR + AOE2DE
ye i think my pricing point is being proven nicely, as much as i’d love to be wrong
That’s normal, that’s how most Steam bundles work since they introduced the “complete your collection” thing

it’s a discount for owners as a sign of appreciation, so they can buy new stuff cheaper- just a marketing, promotional tool Steam allows.

the appreciation seems empty though. imagine a new player comes in sees the DLC and buys it yet can’t play the game. they’d have to buy the original game to “complete” the bundle anyway hence original game would also be discounted. empty promotion to grab attention imo.
This dlc was never meant to Aoe2 players, i can’t understand why some feels disappointed
Firstly, if the target audience of this DLC is not AOE2 players, it means that AOE2 has been without DLC for over a year, this duration is very long, and we have every reason to be disappointed.
Secondly, this is the AOE2 zone, if you think this DLC belongs to AOE1, you can definitely go to the AOE1 zone to discuss it.
Thirdly, unlike some others, I am in favor of incorporating the Roman civ into AOE2.

If it’s not meant for AoE2 players why does it include an AoE2 civilisation?
Even if you can’t play it in ranked, it’s still an new civ any many people don’t even play ranked.
There are many people that want to play as the Romans in AoE2 so they have to buy a DLC that cost 50% more but has 50% less content (civs) for them.
I can clearly see why this is the worst DLC in AoE2 history but at the same time it’s the best DLC in AoE1 history.
Giving people the option to buy the Romans for half the price of a normal DLC would solve that issue.
Maybe they change their mind and do that.

Can’t believe I’m expected to buy Age of Empires for the 16th time. What a money grab this is. I at least expected 3 new civs in the theme of AoE1, not just a 15 dollar port.
Also, the publishers really need to learn the meaning of the word ‘definitive’.

3rd time. Exactly the same as AoE2.
AoE1 → AoE1DE → AoE2 RoR
AoE2 → AoE2HD → AoE2DE
Even AoM:
AoM → AoMEE → AoMR
Not that unusual in the franchise.
But I do agree that AoE1DE owners should have gotten a discount on RoR.

Most of those are expansions/DLC those don’t count as buying the game again.

Nope, this expansion belongs to both games, even if the content is targeted to first game, as i awaited to have it one day. And yes, Roman has an excuse to be incorporated in the game and was an empire.
