That doesn’t mean that ES didn’t left some flaws. For a studio that designed Catholic Scottish as Pagan Celts, i feel very offended for some civ designs
If we change too much of the original game, it ceases to be AoE2 and starts being something else entirely. Keep the integrity of the game intact, flaws and all.
The game will remain the same even if we change (for the better)
Would it, though? If we changed everything that Ensemble created in the game, would it still be the same game? I don’t think so. We must not significantly touch anything from the original game if the identity is to remain the same.
Ironically, now the Portuguese don’t get that bonus as of the latest patch, so this change would work quite well.
Edit: I just saw that it’s now the Portuguese team bonus. I think it would be fine anyway. Team bonuses and civ bonuses are allowed to overlap a lot more than other civ bonuses.
Ah! The old ship of Theseus riddle!
They made it after braveheart, nothing pagan about the celts.
I know what inspired the design, but you forgot about the warpaint, not a christian habit before going to battles.
Persians should get another UT in Imperial. No need for changes on civ attributes, but Mahouts is most useless.
Not really… I mean they have weak xbows but still got a relevant bonus for that…
99.99% true. I believe the Portuguese gold discount applies and the Berbers’ faster working castles contribute too but that’s being super nit picky.
I think we have already reached a point where the AoE2 of 2022 is very different from the original AoE2 demo or AoE2 Age Of Kings. Integrating this into the Elite upgrade does sound like a good idea, though. Ensemble studios did make some mistakes in the original game.
Remember the 13 range Teuton TCs? The cheap defensive bunkers of the Britons called TCs? Remember how Franks with a lot of Knights were kinda unstoppable? Remember how the Korean Siege Onagers once had 12 range but they nerfed it to 11? Remember how the Japanese had neither gold shaft mining nor stone shaft mining nor crap rotation? Remember how camels took extra damage from buildings?
True, man.. Persians got average archers. I mean they got everything except Bracer and Arbalest. However, their monks are probably among the worst in AoE2. It’s like giving Kamandaran to the Spanish or Bulgarians.
Persians, Mongols, Celts, Tatars and Sicilians lack 5 monastery techs.
If you’re gonna give a civ a monk bonus, give it to a civ that has like at least 9/10 monastery techs.. maybe lacking either Herbal Medicine or Heresy. ######### ###### Bengalis, Byzantines, Italians and Portuguese come to mind.
Edit: Why is the word filter censoring names of civilizations that make the Boyar and the Samurai as unique units??
wheres my boiling oil
Probably over the fire or wherever else it’s being boiled
mahout for free and then give boiling oil, it’ll be real nice
What about making both of them a civ bonus? That could be interesting. Then you get another Imp tech, you go from 2 bonuses to 4, and you get both effects. It’s a win-win.
Boiling Oil was not only completely uninspired, but not even a Persian thing. It was removed for a good reason.
naw it’ll be alright to have that back, even as a civ bonus starting in imperial age of something
I would prefer boiling oil over mahouts any day.
Fixed that for you. (20 characters)
Mahouts having an effect on Steppe Lancers and Cavalry Archers doesn’t make sense because Mahouts are elephant riders. Not horse riders. There’s also no need to change the Persians architecture set to be Central Asian because it makes sense for the Persians to have the Middle Eastern architecture set since they are Middle Eastern as Iran is located in the Middle East. Iran is in West Asia, which itself is part of the Middle East region area. Another reason as to why there’s no need to change the architecture set is because changing their architecture set would reduce the amount of civs with the Middle Eastern architecture set to three, which should NOT be the case as four civs with that set is good (though at least another civ with the Middle Eastern building set would also absolutely be a good idea as well). Now at least it would be a good idea to add some new bonuses to the Persians.
Boiling Oil wasn’t a thing at all?!
