The "Pillars of the Gods" campaign only has one major flaw

I think the Pillars of the Gods campaign is much better then the New Atlantis campaign.
The story makes sense, the different missions are all interesting and unique.

But every mission is a mirror match. Chinese vs. Chinese. With the only exception being mission 7, but that is a no build mission.

This was already an issue with the Fall of the Trident campaign where almost every mission is also a mirror match.
I feel like this is an inherent flaw of the concept of AoM because different mythologies don’t really overlap in real life unlike historical scenarios where different cultures fight each other.

I think we will see more of these mirror matchups when other DLCs come out. However, I have a feeling that once the number of civilizations reaches a certain point, the developers will start incorporating more ‘cross battles’ into the storyline.

It is always interesting to see what the other civilizations think of one another, especially regarding their cultures, mythic units, and, of course, their gods.

Yes but to get to that point you’d need a lot of additional DLC, assuming they plan to continue supporting AOM for another 2 years with 2 DLC each year like 2025, that would be 4 new DLC + the one coming at the end of the year. I’d love to see so many new civilisations added to the game, it would make the game really complete and unique.

Chinese cannot meet other civs without seeing Persians and Mesopotamians first, we need Persian and Mesopotamian civ.

The devs would need to make Tale of the Dragon level of bad to make a worse campaign than TNA lol

I think the devs are lacking creativity here, because even in mirror matches, you can make factions very different from one another, specially using special Campaign-only units (for example, fighting against Nüchou she could use some Witch units against you). Unit composition can make maps very unique and fun, but generally the devs on Age of Mythology make everything armies in a lot of maps (for example, the egypitians enemies always make elephant based armies).

Warcraft 3 was very good with this.

Age of Mythology always had that problem though. 90% of the games you fought in the original campaign were mirror matches to a degree or another- As the greeks, the only time you didn’t fight greeks was with Kamos early levels, and from then on it was almost exclusively mirrors. New atlantis was better, but had plenty of mirors as well.
